Phoning at night is NOT the way financial institutions operate and surely even those occupying the lower end of the IQ spectrum should realise that if Mastercard (or any card provider) were genuinely calling they MUST already know your card details - except of course your PIN and nobody would give that out over the phone would they!

Those at the lower end of the IQ spectrum? Sometimes saying nothing makes one appear more intelligent.

Well said Mrs A !
My 86 year old Mom gets them all the time and blocking the numbers doesn't always work as they will call from a slightly different number, if you cough up once to these scam charities they share your number with others, we turn the volume off on her phone, so it doesn't call out and goes to answerphone and we can check that remotely, she can call out as normal and if we need to speak to her we call her mobile.
We have put an app called life360 on her smartphone so we can track her movements very accurately, the other day I went to see her and she wasn't in, checked on life360 and she had taken a walk to the river and was sat on a bench, I walked straight to her.

AP - life360 sounds like a brilliant idea - pity we didn't have something like that years ago when Dad was ill, it would have given us peace of mind.
But your post has got me thinking - it would be great to have something like that to be able to locate our horse riders when they go out for long hacks... I do worry when they don't return at the estimated time and about how we would find them if they were injured in a fall and unable to use their phones.
I'll have to look into it.

Beware of what information is being shared outside the "family circle" by the app.
