We’re hoping to return to our apartment in September and there’ll be plenty of cleaning to do aa it will be 21 months since we could visit. We also intend to paint the walls, originally planned for January 2020; I can’t find the file of useful tips such as decent paint brands that I’d stored ages ago. Could some of you recommend brands of plain white emulsion paint in France please.

On past forums, Baufix emulsion paints from Lidl/Aldi were highly recommended. But they are only available in seasonal offers.

Coincidentally Aldi have white emulsion in stock starting today. There may still be some around when you come out.

German paint of the same quality as Baufix but cheaper is available all year round at Action.
It almost certainly comes off the same production line.

Please stop with this aldi - lidl paint recommendations... no person in the trade would ever propose to you that this is what I am going to use to paint your home.
If you need or want quality paint there are professional paint merchants that will sell to home owners. You pay a little more but it is worth it.
I liked a post above for leroy merlin basic white paint and here in Spain, it is very good. I painted a whole hotel with it ( exterior/interior version) and it has done well over the last 2 years. it will need to be done again in another 2. the owner was a cheapskate so that was the best we - him would purchase and it ended up to be ok. The pro version from a Valencian company who have been in business since 1888 was 20 euros more and he said no and that was 7 years between repainting..

I will add that I put the leroy merlin paint on very thick, like a homeowner putting on 5 coats... That is why it will last 4 years before a repaint.

My sincere apologies for having recommended a paint which I and others know to be very good but which a professional would not admit they were going to use on a customers property.

If Aldi or Lidl or Action sell a product that does the job, all the more important that people who would otherwise turn their nose up at anything from those stores are made aware of it, it might change their attitude, which can only be a good thing.

A ridicules comment I have never been let down by an Aldi or Lidl product just get your head around the buying power of Lidl's 11,200 international stores, Aldi's 10,000 little Leroy Merlin has just 400, Cheap is not always bad quality

Of course professionals don't use it. 1. No trade discount 2. No deferred payment terms and most important of all 3. No continuous supply

They do around here, whenever Lidl or Aldi have it on promo they are queueing at the door when the store opens to empty the shelves, for several years now they have had to ration it.
At Action who have excellent re-supply logistics it is the only empty surface in the shop for the same reasons.
I do agree that only the most stupid of tradesmen would tell their customers that is where they buy their paint.

We use Dulux Valentine in our apartments which is good for four years or so before we look to see if any attention is required, it seldom does. In the communal areas we tend to use LM's own brand, although on the communal staircases we will apply two coats. In both cases we spray to get both speed and good coverage. Very satisfied with both products.

We always used Zolpan for our paint; interior and exterior.. Their water based wood paint was excellent for shutters. 7-8 years between painting.
I do not know if they are thru out France or just in 06

For the ceiling and plain walls we used "Inventiv" paint from Bricomarche, a new house so a few coats pleased with it, for the coloured walls we used "Crown Trade" covered well but a bit soft, it marks easily, but both sorts match up well for touch ups or additional parts to paint.
