Grey, cool and damp. Rain forecast for later. What a surprise! Just had to reduce my courgette plants because they are just too big. The tomatoes are showing signs of blight and I've had to hack down my perennial geraniums which are normally 1ft tall and currently stand at about 4 ft. Oh, and I had to wear a fleece last night when watching TV. So all in all a wonderful summer.

Continued raining this morning. The hay will not get cut for a few more days yet, it is a disaster as I need to move the horses soon. I'm confused now as to who you are Ark. Horses? That's Vic, Stompie, Crystal, me and a couple of others....... A horsey friend nearby still hasn't got her hay cut as the farmer who does it is busy day and night with new calves. As hay, whenever it's cut now, it's going to be pretty poor. We have a different problem. We can't feed hay (very old boy hasn't the teeth to cope now and colics if he tries to eat long stems) so we're having to keep the constantly growing grass topped over a very large area. We gave up haymaking a few years ago & now buy what we need from our farmer neighbour who stores it for us & delivers to our barn pretty much on demand. It takes me about 2 hours to 'mow' the 1.5 Ha winter field every few weeks & the reduction of weeds has been noticeable as I don't give 'em time to seed.
Costs a few bob but, much less hassle, not reliant on weather &/or others to cut & bale & nags love Jean Michells hay.

It all seems to work well on all fronts for you, Olave.
The lovely early sunshine in Berkshire has gone, leaving a cloudy morning with sunny intervals with a northerly breeze and a forecast a high of 24C and no rain.
As it’s St Swithin’s day, we should have 40 fine days rather than 40 wet days.

The usual overcast, cold, drizzly weather. I thought yesterday was supposed to be the last rainy day for a few days, they lied. I had to wear a fleece last night and had the paraffin heater on for a while

The rain has stopped. Small patches of blue sky are visible... fingers crossed for some sunshine later. (Still got a cough if anybody wants it.)

Absolutely glorious, not a cloud in the sky and 24°. Typical Scottish summer's day....😂 I'm really hoping the St Swithin's day rhyme is true!

It's been glorious here from mid morning onwards and looks set to stay the same for the next week. Fingers crossed.

Can someone remind me of the St Swithin's Day prediction, here in France it is St Donald's day, and as Donald is a duck, amongst other things, rain may appeal to him in France.

Can someone remind me of the St Swithin's Day prediction, here in France it is St Donald's day, and as Donald is a duck, amongst other things, rain may appeal to him in France. St Swithin was the Bishop of Winchester, who asked not to be buried in a prominent place at Winchester Cathedral, but outside in a simple tomb "where the sweet rain of heaven may fall upon my grave". But later his remains were moved inside and afterwards there was a huge storm and rained for a long time afterwards, so the legend grew: "St Swithin's Day, if it does rain Full forty days, it will remain St Swithin's Day, if it be fair For forty days, t'will rain no more"

Sunny with a clear blue sky and forecast to continue right over the weekend. 18C now but should reach 26C, with 30C forecast for Sunday, although at Lymington where we’re spending the weekend, it should be slightly cooler, thank goodness - I don’t cope with heat well.
