Most likely is but that will be my option if they play the moneyspinner around here. That, and remove a lot of the packaging from the shopping and leave it in the trolley.

Chip and Bin. The pay-as- you-go rubbish disposal scheme was implemented in our town. Bins were chipped and we were all given a chipped key. -Enormous expense. Consequences - to stop people using town rubbish bins to get rid of their rubbish the town waste bins were removed - result more litter in street. Some citizens decided they might as well fly tip so many local beauty spots were ruined by mounds of domestic waste. The scheme was abandoned after 3 years. Enormous cost and waste. I think that is what the locals here are hoping for.
Which department are you rabbit? 56 Morbihan

I am in Morbihan 56. Another aspect of the chip and bin saga is that the company that installs the bins and the technology is a private enterprise. I think there is probably plenty of scope for palm greasing. I know our local mayor was anti the scheme but is was imposed on him from above.

Unless it is a very populous a single commune would be unlikely to adopt this scheme, I suspect; More likely it was adopted by a local communauté des communes grouping by majority vote of the mayors, so your mayor may have had no choice. Whether there was skulduggery at that level remains an open question.

Correct.
It is all driven by the new taxes of €150 per m3 of non recycled déchets, the comm de comms and their mates are making hay from the opportunity that has dropped in their laps.
Expect to be severely limited and restricted in your visits to the déchetterie next.

Why? The dechetterie is all about recycling, we've had the card system for about 5yrs now (iirc) and no restrictions on use of the dechetterie.

Why?
Well the same punitive taxes are imposed on anything but what is recycled at the déchetteries and through seeing what has happened at my local dump in the UK that I am frequenting at the moment for house clearance.
They started banning vans, trailers except small single axle ones, made access very difficult to the hardcore & soil bennes, then started putting restrictions on that it all had to be carried to the benne bagged and only 5 bags per household etc etc etc, the writing was on the wall already.
Then Covid gave the the great opportunity to restrict access to appointments only, now that there is a total déconfinement they have gone the whole hog.
Appointments only, have to be booked on the internet the day before, maximum of 5 visits per household per month, and the staff that before were helpfull and friendly and could not do enough to help people are now working under a new régime that they are visibly uncomfortable with, as only 5 vehicles per 30 minutes are allowed in there are at least 3 staff to every person disposing of rubbish, they stand over you like prison guards and bust your balls for the slightest thing, an example oil based paints, solvents etc have to be put in a special container at the bottom, I had already seperated them out and done so, the water based ones I was putting correctly in the general rubbish (they were empty plastic tins) they scrutinised every one and several had a VOC marking of 0.1%, ten times weaker than shandy and empty anyway, they would not allow me to carry them the 20 yards down the ramp, told me I had to drive off site and drive back in again to dispose of them.
When I did so they would not let me back in because 30 minutes had passed from the start of my 30 minute créneau despite me only having been there 15 minutes and the place being empty with no queue.
Not surprisingly the back roads are flytipping à go-go!

I think its been decided by our Comm de Comms, I've been around long enough to know how they work, hopefully I will be gone before it really bites & having done all the renovation & DIY I rarely use the déchetterie these days, my concern is for wherever I move to.
Back in the day I filled up a 6m3 gravats benne pretty much single handed over the course of 5 days in August.
Here in the UK people are having skips for everything but they start at £300 and you get heavily fined if you mix materials, plasterboard is the current bête noire, it costs £6 a sheet to buy and £7 a sheet to dispose of
The problem in France is that there is practically no skip hire industry, my Italian contractors were going to be charged €800 + VAT for one that they could only put one single material in.

People simply won't stand for this crap. Flytipping will be rife. I will go back to the old French tradition. Bury everything in the garden. Bummer. I hate digging.

Have you signed the petition Aardvark? Sorry, don't know if you're in 24.
It's a pain even taking recycling to the new bins. You have to feed in single items as the opening is so small.
I think there might be demonstrations over this around our departments.
