Thanks for the info. Before I go searching for pump details etc. the problem for sure is the 4 m 15 mm hose. You need to connect the 25mm PE hose directly to the filter/ skimmer connection. There should be a pressure gauge after the filter to tell you if the filter needs a backwash.

Hi again, as simple as that! It was arranged like that in the name of flexibility, so the locale door could be almost shut, but I'll see whether it's possible to adapt the take-off. Many thanks!
ETA : The filter does get backwashed regularly and sand was changed last year.

Just to add, my filter pump was not up to its usual bar pressure guage on the sand filter this summer but when I had chance I took the pump out and cleaned the spinning fan ( I don't know the technical term) that pumps the water to the sand filter and as expected some rogue leaves where clogging it and slowing it down.

Just to add, my filter pump was not up to its usual bar pressure guage on the sand filter this summer but when I had chance I took the pump out and cleaned the spinning fan ( I don't know the technical term) that pumps the water to the sand filter and as expected some rogue leaves where clogging it and slowing it down. Oooh an engineers nightmare. btw it is an impeller as it induces an impulse to the water to increase its velocity.
