From September 28th, 2021, all cars registered in the UK will require a ‘UK’ sticker with a Union Jack flag to be clearly displayed on the vehicle.
This sticker will replace the previously required ‘GB’ sticker and is ‘part of a wider move towards using the UK signifier across government’ says a British Department for Transport spokesman.
The sticker is required for all vehicles registered in the UK unless your number plate already has a UK identifier with the Union Jack. Identifying stickers, along with headlight correctors, are a legal requirement of all UK-registered cars being driven anywhere in the EU.
Another great Brexit bonus, they just keep on coming………
The embarrassment of having to have an onion jack flag on our car is too much to bare……

Well, that'll go down well in Northern Ireland!... ....are you sure it's going to apply to "all cars registered in the UK" or just those registered with the DVLA?

I've never complied and I certainly won't now. A union jack? On my car? Not on your Nelly.

I can understand the revulsion felt by many sensible people who have equally valuable allegiances. I would be happy to fly any of the UK national flags on my number plate. This year I paid for union flag stickers with GB letters to cover the existing Euro stars and GB to conform with the new, existing requirements. I am pleased that they will still be acceptable. What a waste of resources!

Does anyone here drive a French registered Morgan or Lotus? Have you left the enamelled union flag badge on the back, or taken it off? I ask because we may well abhor the brexit nonsense, but the car is undeniably British…

At a wild guess, I would say the new rule is to do with national identification when travelling in a UK reg car out of the UK. Specifically as is displayed as part of the number plate these days, previously the plates had nothing but the numbers so an extra plate or sticker had to be added to the car bodywork. It is unlikely the French authorities will give a cup of cold porridge what people stick on their car.

Well until they rust off.

I received a British government email this morning; all it said was:
Driving a British car abroad You may need a GB sticker or a UK sticker to drive your car outside the UK. From 28 September UK stickers will replace GB stickers. Check the GOV.UK Displaying number plates website for more information on what to do if you are driving outside the UK before, on or after 28 September 2021.

Well until they rust off. I think we are more likely to get rusty - it's not an old MG just 20 years, not quite 7,000 miles on the clock, kept in the garage all of it's life and doesn't come out if it's raining Static warm still air in a garage is not a good place to prevent rust. 🙂

I drive a 22year old RHD Mondeo with french plates and a large GB sticker on the back. Nobody seems to mind that. The only reason I have the GB sticker is that I can't remove it! I wouldn't take it to the UK though...

I ask because we may well abhor the brexit nonsense, but the car is undeniably British… In June 2017, Lotus Cars became majority owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group.
Morgan Motor Company has been acquired by European investment group, Investindustrial, which has taken a majority stake in the icon 110-year old British sports car manufacturer.

You cannot get better protection than that in my experience, I put a vehicle in one outside over a winter, the top part was like modern tent material, when there were winds water could get in via the fans as the foam covers would blow off.
I had left a freshly ground piece of bare steel on the scuttle as a Sentinel, outside even in a sheltered location it would have had rust forming within 24 hours, after a whole winter in the Carcoon it was still bright metal yet one end of the sealed base groundsheet was like a paddling pool with 2" of water laying there, it was on a slope.
It was the constant airflow that protected it.
