Some friends have asked my views (they think I'm an expert because I know more than they do!) on installing dimmer switches to control 2kw infrared heat lamps they have installed in an outdoor area (weather protected).
I have next to no knowledge of these heat lamps and the only dimmer switches I have seen/installed have a maximum load of around 600W.
Has anyone any experience of this type of setup or knows of a suitable dimmer (variateur?). Thanks in anticipation Squinch

Why? If you reduce the wattage on an infared light it will end up as a hot wire convector

They were sold as being controllable - i.e. variable heat output to suit the conditions. Perhaps I am wrong in describing them as "infrared heaters" ?
