FFS, thanks, it was only a quick summary. Back to basics: the only thing you need for your internet connection are these two telephone wires. If you don't want to prolong the life of all those existing old fashioned telephone sockets and associated wiring: please cut them off. You don't want those many meters of wiring (nice antennas) picking up stray noise bringing your signal/noise ratio down. Those low-power high-frequency adsl signals are easily disturbed. You also don't want additional loads connected to these two wires carrying your tiny, fragile adsl signal. Old classic telephone sets, three legged RC modules incorporated in telephone sockets or several of those special French telephone plugs with built-in adsl filter. They will bring down your internet speed and the stability of your internet connection. In other words: keep the telephone wiring from input ( the modern DTI) to your adsl modem/router or splitter as short as possible, nothing else connected.

The essentials of the telephone wiring with a modern DTI and old French T-sockets: one diagram. With the possibility to use the French T-plug to connect/disconnect other telephone sockets the picture gets more complicated. Old and new together: T socket and RJ-45 with RJ-11 plug inserted, the two wires in the middle are enough for your telephone or adsl-modem connection.
