I discovered this afternoon that it also means a period of 10 days, as well as 10 years, though often the latter is signified by une décennie.

"Décade" isn't a very commonly used word but it's the "ten days" meaning that's the most frequent.
According to "Robert": "Décennie" is practically always used to refer to a period of 10 years.
