UK will get tuhe medal for the greatest number of injuries in track; seriously, why should this be, training methods? My theory is that some athletes benefited from the enforced rest that Covid restrictions imposed and some didn't. So maybe those who were weren't expected to do well just thought 'what the hell' and relaxed and enjoyed themselves. The rest may well have prevented over training and subsequent injuries. The top level elite athletes would have probably been pressured into intensive training to make up for what they lost out, leading to injuries.

For the first time since 1988 (when it was Russia's turn), one country has three male teams in the finals; France, in basketball, handball, and volleyball. And basketball and handball for the females. Cocorico! Why then is France playing Japan at this moment in the womens semi final - 22-14 start of the second quarter.

That's an oops moment, I meant to say volleyball and handball for the females. Yes, they won't be there in the basketball.

Gold medals for the French men's handball and volleyball teams; a difficult afternoon because one match was on France 2 and the other on France 3, so we had to keep zapping.

Synchronised swimming was clever, how do they lift themselves up so high out of the water with nothing to stand on?

That name has also falling to the side; it is now called artistic swimming

Yes, I watched the duet sychronised artistic swimming. It was amazing! Not something I normally watch but never seen the duets. They had great split above and below water shots and it is incredible how little movement keeps them steady, rising, turning, etc., whilst what is above water is high action. It was mesmerising!

It's quite surprising just how many medals Team GB have won when you look at near neighbouring countries of similar populations.
I wonder if the lottery funding makes the difference? How do other countries fund their olympic squads?

The surfing is 10000 miles away in Tahiti

The most notable thing for me of these Olympics is how some women have worked their bollocks off to get there.

I think this is going to be a lonely site now as well! I hope you meant lonely thread! There's still the Paralympics to come, due to start 24 August: www.paralympic.org/tokyo-2020
