Try Graines-Baumaux.fr around Christmas time for your Pink Fir Apple seed potatoes. They actually use both the English and French names. Very satisfied customer. If you place a reasonably big order with them you will find all sorts of freebies included in the delivery - often seeds but sometimes flower bulbs.

We fitted a 350ltr water butt fed from a gutter. It's been a huge success during the hot spells and I haven't needed any more than this to keep everything healthy. Our weather seems to see saw between torrential storm and blazing heat, but knowing the free water is being captured cheers up the rainy days.....

Thanks exile - I used them last year but didn't notice the Pink Fir Apples. I was rather disappointed in them as suppliers but that could just have been the rather odd things I bought there. On the other hand I am a very satisfied customer of Kokopelli but they really only do seeds....

Would love to mow the grass if the rain would hold off long enough to do it. Potatoes - have started to lift our earlies - yes I know its's late but the weather was so cold they did not get planted until May. Once lifted my Feve de Luz broad beans will go in for an autumn crop. Amanda - for earlies allow 60 days from planting to starting to lift - For main crop allow around 90 days - and If like me you grow Pink Fir Apple - Corne de Gatte - allow 120 days Thank you.

Thanks for the info on supplier and varieties of potatoes. Time to start weeding, grass cutting and plant watering again. hope the gardens are providing a bounty of home produced crops.

The polytunnel produces a wheelbarrow-full of toms, cucs, courgettes, peppers, aubergines, chillies and herbs every two days. Late-sown climbing French beans are producing well and against all expectations, carrots and parsnips are good, despite total neglect. The fruit's the problem. I don't treat anything edible, so apples, pears and greengages have to be bottled or frozen quickly. There just aren't enough hours in the day.....

My carrots are still doing fine despite being earlies. The climbing green beans are now being left to produce seed. Butternut squash are ripening well, all 22 of them. Some courgettes still going, ditto toms and lettuce and soft herbs. Apples are OK, same with the blackberries. But the raspberries and plums have been a disaster. So, some good, some bad.

The fruit trees are poor with the exception of some of the apples. Vegetables are ok but a wee douse of rain would be good. grass and weeds really knocked back. Bit more time to relax or find something else that really needs done.

Ours is doing OK. I do not eat much lettuce - a few leaves on a sandwich or burger

Nice little system, ibis, what's it based on, ie how do you do it?

It is considered a aeroponic system - water sprays on the roots.
An Adruino controls it - well the pump(normally once an hour) and lights 18 hours on / 6 hours off with 2 - 60cm 6500k LED lights per shelf for growth only, no flowering. Each light is 9 watts and the pump 7 watts so very economic. Using an certified organic hydroponic fertilizer also.
I have a little restaurant interested in one here in Valencia. 6 shelves, so 90 plants in total. Trying to get the newspaper or tv channels interested so they get a little free advertising.
Going to try to grow saffron over the winter.. See how that works...

The top portion - much taller than the 25cm or 30cm high bottom sections is to grow something I cannot print here which also do very well but are in soil and have to be removed to a dark place for their 14 hour sleep per day.
