I part cook my white asparagus in water, then wrap in jambon cru and fry in butter with a bit of oil. Serve with poached egg and brown bread and butter. Yum.

Just getting back on road to fitness but managed to get more grass cut. Amount I have to cut looks so much bigger. Got to keep on top of what’s already cut and chip away at the rest. Look at plants once I have achieved that.

Also started picking the Asparagus, waiting until we have a bunch and then a bit of Fillet and potatoes with them, I cook ours in butter and olive oil, how do other people do them? Steamed or grilled with mayonnaise or butter. Soup, quiche, wrapped in ham, you name it 😁 I went a bit mad and planted 250 crowns when I got a veg plot 🤣

The polytunnel is ready for planting and sowing, after a few trailer-loads of soil improver have been rotovated in. 'Sir' got busy with the liteaux and built the tomato and cuc support frames and I'll lay geotextile, install watering rings and plant tomorrow. I'm going to take a different approach with the cherry toms this year, and grow them with a few pretties in the big terrace pots, so they're handy for picking more regularly The veg plot looks lovely and tidy, there's just not much to eat yet Might try a sowing this weekend now we've had some rain and night temps are due to rise. 5°C hasn't done the averages much good!

Ate my first lettuce and radish yesterday. I sowed under cloche and they've done really well. Carrots are up, as are beetroot and everlasting spinach. Made my wigwam for the climbing beans and sowed seed. Also constructed the tomatoe frame - I let mine go wild so they need a bit of support. My late husband would have been proud of me. It's the first year I've had to do things on my own and it's not going too bad. Haven't got the strength he had so I have to think of smart ways round but I'll get there.

A long way behind you ladies and for good reason given we have just had a snow shower.
Onion sets are in. Asparagus is just poking above the soil.
Everything else is still in the greenhouse or in the seed packet.

Can’t find green asparagus in the shops only white. Is it still too early?

Just finished our first bunch of French green asparagus - bought at Grand Frais if that helps. Not cheap (11€something per kilo)but a lot cheaper than 2 weeks previously when it was from Peru!

It looks like it may be a good year for fruit , our plum and peach trees have set fruit for the first time in three years.

My last good plum harvest was 3 years ago when the trees were so heavily laden the branches snapped and we had to support the trees with props. Since then I've had a small harvest from the Quetche but only a handful of fruit from the Mirabelle. This year is looking good, again for the Quetche but the Mirabelle less so.

On the subject of asparagus , folks around here harvest a wild plant known locally as aspergette. It seems to be quite selective about where it grows as in the UK it is found only around Bath ! It is just coming in to season here.
Its full name is Pyrenees star of Bethlehem or Prussian Asparagus. Very good.
