You're welcome to any amount of Acers, Koelreuterias, Albizzias and Robinias! I read so many times about Albizzias self seeding and yet in all the 12 or so years we had the silk tree in my old garden, it didn't happen once! And I had no idea Acers self seed. Would love one but in this garden as in the last one, shade is in very short supply.

That's the strange thing, jardiniere, the A. palmatum grow quite happily all over the place! The two A. p. dissectum are in full sun all day taking whatever the weather throws at them and don't suffer, although I do keep the beds watered in July and August. The only sickly one is Acer ginnala but that's probably because I keep hacking it's roots to plant underneath :-) Let me know if you want to give anything a try and I'll send them when they're dormant.

Still eating runner beans. Best crop ever this year! Tomatoes have all got blight now so thats it for them - always happens in Autumn. PSB is doing fine as are beetroot and leeks. French beans coming to end but a lot have been frozen. 16 butternuts harvested from 2 plants which isn’t bad. Going to plant garlic soon….

Toms still going, just. Lettuce carrots and cabbage fine. Plenty of soft herbs. But to honest I'm amazed I had any produce at all. I've watered 3 times max this summer and it's been hot and my soil is sandy so no water retention. It's amazing how long things can keep going without water.

I thought the météo had made a mistake when they claimed 4C here at 7am. It certainly didn't feel like 4C! Perhaps they were right, though, if you had a frost spectrum.

Had a full, productive day in the garden today....the first for several months Still having to water as no rain forecast for the foreseeable future, but the plants are much happier with sensible temperatures of 9C/26C. It's mostly harvesting this week as walnuts, chinese jujubes and persimmons are all ready. Next week will be major weed-control and planting onion sets, shallots, garlic, beans and peas, while the dry weather holds!

We are going to be planting onions (sowing too) and garlic ,our broad beans are in flower at the moment and we have just finished eating the peas, but will probably sow peas and broad beans again the coming week. A lot of what we are doing at the moment is " hit and miss " because the weather is not so predictable as it used to be.Rain forecast here the end of next week , have had a very copiouse cepe harvest this year , dried and frozen.

Do you think it's too late to sow carrots if I put them under cloche? I'm running out and won't have enough for winter.
