Interesting to hear about the "sleep" issue. Was there a full moon last night? I have been having trouble sleeping over the last two or three days. Not normally a problem as I get to bed knackered most days. Definitely was .. and very beautiful it was too 😊 It's not often there is much of the sky to see in my part of Brittany due to cloud cover.

Full moon last night, I woke up, gusts of wind tried to be nasty, poor trees and roof tiles. They succeeded in waking me up, the rain had stopped and around four o'clock I opened our bathroom window transforming it into a room with a view. Cloudy with very bright intervals, almost sunshine. Black and white photography: Bright lights, not a big city. What about those incredible dark nights in rural France?

We had silver birch fall in the early hours between 4am and 8am, I let the dog out at 4am and it was there... never heard a thing and only 30 metres from the house so that "if have tree falls in a forest and no-one is there, does it make a noise..., luckily it fell away from the house, cleared it all up today, family activity, only the stump to sort but no need for a JCB as I will probably knacker a chainsaw blade but that's about it.
Apparently there where winds overnight of 109 miles an hour in Paris.

Several years ago we lost a very tall pine. It took me a good week to cut and split into firewood and another to get the smaller branches and mess off to the tip. The stump (about 60cm in diameter) is still where it fell. I have wrecked too many chainsaw chains to even bother trying with this one. Thankfully it fell away from the house. If it had fallen the other way it would have taken out the kitchen roof and the chimney.

So now it's all over for another month, are we all sleeping soundly?

Pretty much. Just the bladder to convince.

I have been startled a few times by trees falling in our forest, mostly on a still day and the sound travels throughout the valley. What brings them down? Idon't know as they are not rotten, they just split and fall. I have always said that the most dangerous thing in a forest are the trees.

If anybody wants to remove a tree stump, one way of removing it is to drill holes in it then fill them with sodium chlorate and cover the stump for a few months, then have a bonfire on the stump. and, I slept well last night but not the two or three nights before.

The most dangerous things are the gun-happy pigeon-killers Oh if only the trees containing their wendy houses would split and fall.....

Sodium Chlorate was my favourite weed killer before they made it illegal. My stump isn't still growing, its just a bit ugly, and sitting in the middle of a group of trees knee deep in pine needles so I'm not over keen on burning it out. Thought briefly about dynamite but I don't have any friends in France that can get explosives.

I hear Liz Truss was on the phone to Scotland's First Minister asking how she could get the moon named after her.
