Has anyone noticed anything different about the acorns this autumn?

We don't see acorns as there are no oak trees anywhere near us - but - presumably thanks to the squirrels we found a little seedling which we have transplanted. I don't think we will ever get to sit under it but future generations might.

Not as well developed perhaps.

Ours are much smaller and fewer than usual - as are the chestnuts.

There were huge numbers of fat acorns on trees near our home in the UK, but fewer conkers, which were also small.
The only ‘real’ oak tree near us in the Gard is in a friend’s garden in a nearby village; it has a huge number of big acorns.

I’ve just come back from staying near Bordeaux. There were large, long and fat acorns everywhere…

It seems as though it's just in these parts then. We have really sturdy healthy trees and many of them, so I can't put it down to sickness. Must be the weather we've had around here. I can honestly say I haven't seen one newly fallen acorn. Normally I have to fence off a huge tree in the paddock to stop the horses from gorging, but I haven't needed to do that this year.
