A nonsense but totally predictable given that the fishing agreement was written on the back of a fag packet a couple of minutes before the overall trade deal was signed off.

This is a mega bone of contention in Jersey anyway - I only presume same in Guernsey - that they had no say in brexit and have to suffer all the nonsense heaped on them by the brexit numbheads.
Your question has been asked many times, but sadly the answer is no, they cannot unilaterally join the EU. I guess maybe possible if they did an Ian Smith UDI, but that is not going to happen.
After brexit and before the EU decided to recognise the UK driving licence, Jersey asked Brussels if the EU would recognise their driving licence which was granted, so there is friendly talks with the EU despite the fish stuff.

My understanding is that Jersey issues the licences to fish in its waters. The UK is not AFAIK withholding licences but the story becomes completely conflated thanks to the media. The UK is involved only because of the Crown Dependency status.
