Am I correct to say that this tax is not pursued if you are over the pensionable age? Thank you.

No you are not correct. It is not collected ifyou are a French resident and have an income below a set level. That level depends on how mant people live in the household.

I thought Taxe d'habitation had now been completely phased out for French residents?

The only item on our Taxe d'habitation is the TV licence now.

Exile is correct with, I believe, one exception. All maison secondaries, ie not principle residence, are subject to TdH regardless of income or residency status.

The only item on our Taxe d'habitation is the TV licence now. That was all that was on ours which arrived in the post yesterday, and with the monthly payments already made there is only 21€ to pay, which will be taken out in two prélèvements, 13€ and 8€.

As the information on the linked government web site shows, Taxe d'habitation will not be completely phased out for principal residences until 2023.

Ours has come down by over 100 Euros to around 600.......Nice Presumably because they have removed the TV licence (Redevance Audiovisuelle)?

My OH has just been squeezed yet again for Tax Hab on her derelict property in the SW. This is after a very long and tedious session last year of getting them to accept that the property is falling down, no utilities connected, and is totally uninhabitable. What are these idiots thinking? The house has suddenly been renovated by fairies that came in the night?

You were probably granted a dégrèvement and not an exoneration.
My property is uninhabitable and I am living in a caravan in the garden, nonetheless I will have to pay taxe d'hab from next year, I am going to try and get the coefficient de vétusté changed to médiocre which should reduce both taxes somewhat, this is never reassessed on a property, mine would have been en bon état but now would be at best mediocre, it sounds like yours is en mauvais état.
- en bon état, si elle n'a besoin d'aucune réparation, quel que soit son âge ;
- en assez bon état, si elle n'a besoin que de petites réparations, soit que l'immeuble ait été édifié récemment, soit que sa vétusté soit peu apparente en raison d'un entretien assuré de façon suivie ;
- en état passable, si les défauts permanents dus à la vétusté, assez apparents malgré un entretien assuré assez régulièrement, ne compromettent pas les conditions d'habitabilité mais augmentent les difficultés d'entretien pour l'occupant et réduisent l'agrément des locaux (jeu des portes et fenêtres ; planchers dénivelés ; plafonds, murs et cloisons légèrement crevassés, etc.) ;
- en état médiocre, si elle a besoin de réparations d'une certaine importance, encore que localisées. Les défauts permanents dus à la vétusté doivent être sensibles, au point de compromettre certaines des conditions essentielles d'habitabilité (par exemple, étanchéité, isolement et fermeture des locaux mal assurés, sols, plafonds et cloisons gauchis ou dégradés, marches d'escaliers usées et branlantes, etc.) ;

I assume it hasn't been debited, so return the claim with a copy of the letter and don't pay??
