If you want to receive friends or family for a visit it is, apparantly, a new requirement to obtain an Attestation d'acceuil from the mairie, at a cost of €30. Has anyone done this yet and were their visitors asked for it on entry to France?
Thanks, Graham

Have you been specifically advised to obtain one? Are they being enforced?
Never obtained for my visit and never requested by anyone. I met the mayor who was aware of my visit and where I was staying.

It is not new, been around for many many years. However, because of Brexit it seems new to Brits.
All Third Country Nationals visiting France who have not booked paid accomodation in advance are 'nominally' required to have one.
Most rural Mayors will not charge for it (if indeed they even know of it )
They are rarely requested, but I have heard of two requests for it this year.

Thread drift I saw my first UK car adhering to the new country sticker on the rear yesterday- whole number plate is yellow with a white oval sticker with UK in black letters slapped on the body beside it. The letters must have been minimum 150mm high! I am sure he was emphasising he is from brexit island rather than the sticker being standard. So I gave him a blast as I zipped around him on the outside of a roundabout

UNECE Convention on Road Traffic, of 8 November 1968.
The distinguishing sign... shall consist of one to three letters in capital Latin characters. The letters shall have a height of at least 80 mm and their strokes a width of at least 10 mm. The letters shall be painted in black on a white ground having the shape of an ellipse with the major axis horizontal and measure 180 mm x 133 mm
The Euro style plate is still permitted with the Euro stars replaced by the Union flag above UK letters.
Edited: to correct measurement

Mostly the attestation d’acceuil will be ignored and kept in a bottom drawer, of course. But there may well be mayors or even préfets who are bloody minded or of extreme political beliefs who wish a very tight control of furriners in their patch who will impose the attestation.

I am confused by the Attestation d'Acceuil situation. Having being, pre-Brextit, EU citizens, we'd never even heard of them, and even when friends from the USA came to visit some years ago nobody mentioned them. We have a couple of British friends coming over to visit us for a couple of days in August, fingers crossed, as part of their touring camping holiday in France. Do we still have to obtain an Attestation d'Acceuil for them even though we are not their main destination? And if so, do we provide and pay for one AdA to cover them both, or do we need two? We live in the back of beyond and our Mairie is unlikely to have more of a clue about the situation than we do. And the idea of compiling a wheelbarrow full of documents as proof of our residency, utility bills, financial situation etc, sounds like a proper faff considering they'll only be staying three nights,in their own tent,in our garden. I'd like to hear about other forum members' experience of AdAs and would really appreciate any advice. Thank you

Thank you I went through the process at the beginning of March when our son decided to make a sudden visit .. as we hadn't seen him for 2 1/2 years I didn't want him being denied access to France because he didn't have one. He was flying from Manchester .. which influenced my decision somewhat as it is a major International travel hub.
Our Mairie knew all about the attestation but admitted that they rarely provide them. For a married couple you would only need one attestation.
Upshot .. although our son had all the required docs he didn't need them. Nobody seemed interested in anything other than in his passport, which was stamped.
Now not sure what to do about our daughter's proposed visit in August.
In your case, as you are not your friend's main place of stay, it is difficult. Have they made reservations at campsites ? Do they have a paper trail ?
Edit: A copy of the paperwork, when completed, was kept by the Mairie so that they know me/us for next time. The 30€ 'tax stamp' has a code on it which needs to be quoted on the attestation. I paid for the stamp online .. easier than going to the tabac.

They have started asking all 3rd world nationals for them plus proof of fiances for the trip here in Spain. Airports, ferry ports and the border with "the rock".

We have emailed our 'friends' inviting them to stay giving their travel details, dates and our address, they print the email and have it just in case.

That sounds interesting .. can you keep us up-to-date on how your 'friends' get on with that ? As it's the French side that is interested in visitors arriving with UK passports are you writing the email in French too ?
