Over the last few months I have visited friends in three different areas of France. I can’t think when anyone would ask for such an Attestation, and I didn’t obtain one. Maybe gendarmes, if they pulled you over for a spot check?

It was (back in the day) and only ever would be requested as a means of giving a hard time to and making a suspected undesirable believe that they were being watched, think of Tommy Robinson on his holiday.
Those constantly looking for the next thing to worry about will probably have already convinced themselves that after Brexit and with the election of Marine Le Pen they will be the future undesirables

This is a point of entry thing and only applicable to those entering France from outside the EU/EEA etc. Unlikely the average gendarme knows anything about it, and if they did, it would only be requested if a gendarme thought a visitor was unable to feed or house him/herself.

Did you make 3 separate visits Loiseau ? And did you drive in your own car using the ferry/tunnel ?
The reason I was jumpy about the attestation was our offspring using Manchester airport, a major International travel hub, as their exit point and arriving at another International travel hub.

Thank you for your replies and comments.I'm now hoping that as our friends have already booked campsites for before and after they come to us,they will have paperwork for that which can be shown at the point of entry into the country, and satisfy any requirements. If they were already here in France, and then decided to pay us a surprise visit, there wouldn't be time to organise an Attestation d'Acceuil in any case. Fingers crossed!

It was two trips over in total, Sue. Both times I entered France via the Shuttle at Folkestone, where the French immigration formalities are always so laid back as to be almost horizontal.

Not lucky at all, its the way it is at all the border contrôles, you are working yourself up with worry for no reason, it's not even you who will be travelling.

Hi Sue56. We haven't had this tested as the one lot of people who visited were not asked to produce anything.
I wouldn't write in French, if they had made a Gite booking, unless it is via a French website, it will all be in English, even a Brittany Ferries holiday or Eurocamp booking would be in English. I think the address they are staying and their travel dates along with their tickets should suffice.
