Amazon not accepting UK Visa credit cards.
Via have put up their fees since they are no longer bound by the EU rules on credit card charges (to the retailer)

UK inflation up to 4.2% too, higher than the predictions. I doubt that much of that if any is due to Brexit directly. Cost of fuel and power - up several hundred per cent on the wholesale prices across the world. Impact on retail prices has been reduced as a percentage due to taxes applied and price caps but still significant. Cost of timber - doubled around the world this year. Building materials - prices rising very quickly across the world. UK food prices - going up. One main reason is suggested as being to to a reduction in special offers and that is blamed on Covid rather than Brexit. The second feature is downsizing of "portion" sizes - from fewer packs in a multi-pack through to a few grams less in a package - but that is certainly happening here in France as well - I note that Felix sachets in some boxes are 85g but historically they have been 100g as just an example that impacts on me directly. Dried yeast for bread making - used to be 5 sachets in a cardboard box. Now 4 sachets in a plastic sachet.

Cement and bagged concrete mix double the price in the UK than France for virtually half the quantity, they have sneakily reduced the size of the bags or postfix to 20kg, the cheapest trade price is £5.40 for a 20kg bag, Selco is £7.50 per bag which is what the builders are paying for cement with their discount. Any Monsieur Tout le Monde can walk into Brico-Depot and buy 35kg bags of cement or concrete mix for €4.85 = £4.07 UK = 37p per kg, France = 12p per kg. So for the bagged concrete its actually treble the price (& guess who needs 20 bags ) for the cement more than double the price. The cost of new build houses, building & renovation works will rise significantly, the latter already much higher.

I see this as Amazon throwing it's weight around to get VISA to reduce their charges rather than anything to do with Brexit.

I was shocked a couple of days ago when buying chicken feed. A couple of months ago it was just under 10€ a bag. Now it is 15€. If this carries on I will put the girls on a diet.

I suppose that makes up, in a way, for the excessive price of paint in France compared to the UK.

I understand that but I've not read any news piece that clearly states that Brexit has forced VISA to increase their charges, you'd have to assume that any company working with a titan like Amazon would be wary of doing anything to put the business relationship at risk.

Nothing forced Visa to increase their charges, they chose to do it once they were no longer constrained by EU law - no doubt the loss of income from Amazon might make them change their mind.

A European ergonomics standard stipulated that the maximun weight allowed for manual lift should be 20kg, I have often wondered how the 35kg bags can still be marketed. It would seem that UK are still abiding to EU standards and not the Europeans. please tell me where you get cement for €4,85 a bag.

Cheapest Spanish cement in our nearest Brico Depot is 6 euros for a 35kg sack, B & Q have 25kg Blue Circle sacks for £4.30. Prices look pretty similar to me.

Perhaps related. I was warned that a 5 euro commission would be taken if I proceeded to withdraw €300 using a UK visa debit card. Same card and machine I've used regularly with only a percentage commission taken by the issuing bank.
