I think it is over estimated.

It’s not something I’ve gone in for much, but hope you’ll be able to do a tasting at home or in a nearby shop, Johnny.
We had our invitation from friends who have a wine shop in town to go along to a tasting of Beaujolais Nouveau and Côtes du Rhône this evening but won’t be going along due to my husband’s medical problems. We have a lot of Côtes du Rhône vines around town, and I appreciate a lot of those. Our friends sell an excellent range of local wines at caveaux prices as well as many wines from further afield. We’ve been to a number of tasting evenings of wines from various regions over a number of years, always good and very enjoyable.

Johnny I’m in the U.K. right now and had lunch at a French restaurant accompanied by a bottle of 2021 beaujolais nouveau. So you can find it in the U.K. The restaurant had it’s delivery at 12:15 as we had sat down at noon, so had to have an apéro before starting on the wine which was brought straight to the table as soon as it arrived. Very pleasant.

A bottle of Pisse-Dru Beaujolais nouveau to accompany the France/All Blacks match on Saturday night will go down very well. www.pisse-dru.fr/

It's a well-managed gimmick, but then so's my favourite, Colombelle. Big, annual launch, lots of fêtes and repas, lots of publicité.....But it all adds a bit of fun to what can be a terribly pretentious subject.

Give it a miss and buy a bottle of decent stuff, should be bottom of the price range but isn't due to gross over-hyping

Some idiot in a fancy dress broadcasting the merits of the stuff in Leclerc just now; been at it all day much to the annoyance of the staff who think like me that the stuff is foul. Judging by the number of cases unsold this far it has not been a raging success.

It's often called a Primeur in other parts of the wine growing areas and just as awful

I've just had a croustillante de canard aux pistaches / beaujolais. Very tasty and bought in the market at the weekend. Don't know if the beaujolais was nouveau.

It's often called a Primeur in other parts of the wine growing areas and just as awful Not all primeurs are awful. All that means is that they're meant to be drunk young, nothing to be gained by laying them down to mature. As said above, Colombelle is another example. Beaujolais seems to take the rap because it was (AFAIK) the first one to have modern, dare I say, clever marketing applied to it.

True about the marketing, it was and has been brilliant. Pity about the liquid though.
