Not as much as Paul Kern, a Hungarian soldier shot in the head in 1915.

I do not think any members are "sleep deprived"; ie. having children at the moment, a stressful job, etc. Although some might have to wake up early to let the chickens out or feed the horses but going to bed at 10pm should give them enough time for sleep and breakfast before the deed.
Wonder how much research was conducted on him whilst he was "sleeping" to see if it would be of benefit to further our lives or for deep space travel?

For most people it must depend on how much time we actually spend awake during the night. My nights are very hit and miss, depending how bad my backache or knee pain are, despite taking prescribed painkillers, although I’m sure that others must get less sleep than me.

I haven't been a good sleeper for years.
When I wake up I always feel as though I haven't slept at all, but I'm sure I must have. I always feel tired 😫

i hope that you’re fast asleep now, Manonthemoon2.
According to my Fitbit I’ve had 1 hr 27 minutes, but I’m hoping to get some more later. Maybe.

My sleep total last night was 2hrs 51 mins according to my Fitbit, the second really dreadful night this week, not very unusual for me. Feeling very tired and slow this morning.

MotM2 and gigi .. we will have to create a 'poor sleepers' club. Like you two my nights are either poor, very poor or somewhat okayish. The main snag I find is the (almost) constant feeling of sluggishness which follows a poor night, it's dispiriting.

I gave up on sleep after an hour or so of staying still followed by reading, then thought fellow poor-sleepers might be awake too.

I 'bunny-hopped' (a technical term to denote sleeping an hour or so, then waking, then persuading yourself to go back to sleep) until 6am when I decided to go downstairs and make a cup of tea. Been catching up on the news since then so didn't think to look in here. Hoping that you have succeeded in falling asleep again gigi.

Yes, I did get a little more, Sue - it all added up to 4hrs 44mins according to my Fitbit. Not very restful, hope you feel refreshed. I’d not heard the term ‘ bunny-hopping’, it’s quite sweet!

Delighted to hear you achieved a total of more than 4 hours sleep .. bravo. The use of 'technical term' for bunny-hopping was very tongue-in-cheek .. 😉 I have used the words in that context for all the years that I haven't been sleeping well. Apparently, according to some, if I had taken HRT then it would very likely have helped my sleep problem as well as all the other problems it is supposed to resolve.

Does the Fitbit record the total hours or the individual bits where you’re asleep then awake?

I’m happy to adopt the term, Sue - it fits some nights so well. I took HRT for quite a number of years but don’t remember it helping my sleep; I also baked HRT cake and took various OTC remedies, but whether or not they helped with symptoms I don’t know - such things had the virtue of making me think that I was doing something to help myself. I vividly remember standing at the open window of the ‘cupboard’ I taught a group of special needs children in during the middle of winter.

This works well for me, two taken 30 mins before bed gives me about seven hours sleep.

Does the Fitbit record the total hours or the individual bits where you’re asleep then awake? It records all of it if you have over 3 hours in one go: awake, REM, light and deep sleep. Under 3 hours in one go is much less defined. Obviously, I can’t say that any of it is true, other than when I remember part of a dream it’s been at the correct time - I rarely remember dreams. When I feel well-rested, the time shown for my deep sleep is shown as prolonged. I also know that when my heart rate is exceptionally high, the peaks shown agree with how I feel plus my bp shown on our machine. I look at all the results each day, number of steps etc, and find it very interesting; as I said, I can’t know for sure that any of it is correct, but I’m happy to accept it as there is some corroboration of some of the results.
