I worked two days and nights in Hammerfest Norway ( one day is 6 months and one night is 6 months) in temeratures down to minus 25°C, driving on snow and mud winter tyres through blizzards you cannot imagine. No problem. Others were on studs in some cases, but I never saw a snow chain used. I was in my Subaru all wheel drive forester, one has to imagine it fitted with glass accelerator and brake pedals and drive accordingly. We couldn’t understand in Iceland why all the cars were so noisy,then realised it was the studded tyres

We used to race on lake Michigan with studded tires in the winter months..
