Mower at home needs a new try, the old one has rusted through and its not cost effective to have it repaired, its 12 years old at least. Any recommendations for a new one UK sourced for use in the UK, petrol preferred, but does not need to be propelled. Dont want to go down the Honda route again, their prices are silly at the moment......

Silly prices might be because Hondas go on forever.

I know that is the case with mine and I have had to replace a couple of bits (non-Honda) which although not cheap, compared with the cost of a new mower are actually very cost effective.

I’m very happy with my Husqvarna mower. No chance of it rusting, it’s not made from ferrous metal.

The motor used on the mower in the link is a Loncin. Chinese. I personally wouldn't touch it.
I find the well designed Honda engines really are the way to go if you have deep pockets but as stated above, the decks are still prone to rust unless they are plastic or aluminium. And I've had an aluminium deck corrode badly so even they are not the ultimate answer. Plastic is only used on smaller mowers anyway. If I was in the UK I would buy a mower with a good old fashioned Briggs and Stratton engine and disassemble it, send the deck away to be hot dip galvanised and then reassemble it. That mower would last well beyond my remaining lifespan.
But since I'm not it UK I will carry on with secondhand mowers found in skips cobbled together with my shedfull of spares and continue welding patches on the decks. OH says it keeps me off the streets.

We have used Mounfield lawnmowers for a good few years now.
I do very little maintenance on them but fresh fuel after a lay-up is a must.

My 16 year old Viking (part of Stihl group) self propelled mower's deck is a good as new & the machine performs faultlessly when I use it. Not a cheap machine but well engineered & worth a look.
Mind you I haven't used it in anger since I bought the fabulous Stiga front cutting ride on 10 years ago.

Condidering this one.......
I have one of those, I have recommended it before, bought mine about 8 years ago, look on Youtube there is a video it is a beast of a machine, Kohler engine, doesn't need priming and a good company to deal with, pay the extra to get them to set it up for you.

I stand corrected I didn't realise they made whole mowers and thought they just sold the engines to companies like McCulloch et al.

I think you recommended it to me last year AP and I bought the bigger one for France, hance why I knew about the smaller one, so the smaller one is OK also? I seem to recall a discussion then followed about cheap chinese engines etc

We bought Stiga mower, don't no the model of the top of my head, commercial model. These were used six days a week throughout the grass cutting season. We changed them every four or five years because of heavy use.

I seem to recall a discussion then followed about cheap chinese engines etc Apologies JD, I wasn't able to follow the link first time (French Internet), it is a smaller model to the one I have, they say it's their own engine so maybe they have changed from Kohler and that may be the Chinese engine discussion, I couldn't comment if they have changed, why spoil a winning formula. Are their any reviews online ? The reviews on their site seem very positive, I'd give it a go especially at that price, pay for the Gold PDI it is worth every penny ! I have a Honda in the UK, it is about 20 years old and is brilliant, a friend services it every year if I buy the service kit, I bought a cheap Mountfield from Screwfix as a back up and it has hardly been used as I love my Honda.
