I hope, given the exponential rise in Delta cases in the UK, that there will be a EU wide clamp down on travel from the UK.

I would caution against such revenge statements given that Europe's case rate are on a similar track. The last thing we need in all of this mess is stupid nationalistic tit-for-tat actions. Actions need to be based on science and not revenge.

It should have been in place weeks ago, so hardly revenge. Apart from that I agree.

Why are they blaming the beta variant? The figures show that it is declining. Attachment Deleted

I would suggest that it is because the percentage of cases of Beta is falling against a (starting to be rapidly) increasing number of cases overall.
This means the absolute number of Beta cases is increasing even if the percentage is falling.
Edit to explain: Over the time period the percentage of Beta cases has fallen by a half. Over the same period the total number of cases has gone up by 2.5 so the number of beta cases has increased by 1.25.

As I understand it “beta” has been identified and been around for some time so it’s presence here can’t have been an unknown to HMG.
I think the big question is why the decision to remove the requirement to isolate post arrival the Uk was ever made in the first place if the government was so darned twitchy about the beta variant that there was a risk of a last minute U turn at the first hint of an upturn in the French figures.
Whatever the reason obviously people’s plans are stuffed and the UK travel industry simply can’t survive if HMG carries on switching restrictions off and then on again at a couple of days notice..UK customer confidence in booking anything to anywhere with pretty much anybody will be absolutely zero.

Thanks Plog and I agree but just maybe the Government are trying to keep people in the UK, for health and economy reasons, we have a friend ( in the travel industry )in our village in the Uk who says that she has multiple family bookings, abroad and in the UK to cover all options, they will drop their UK holiday booking at the drop of a hat and their Med booking also depending on the advice.

The decision defies reason given the massive increase in UK cases numbers compared to here, no idea where that leaves some of our holiday home clients who were due to come out when the school holidays start next week.

I’ve read since it’s because of the high Beta variant numbers in Reunion! That’s using the same logic that was used to remove the OAP winter heating allowance.
