Two of the local councillors have just visited to deliver Christmas presents from the commune for the second year. This clearly means the annual repas des ainés has had to be cancelled again because of Covid. Such a lovely gesture and one I can't imagine happens in the UK. The boxes are full of speciality foods and bottles of wine plus a Tangram game made out of wood. I expect that many of you (well, at least, the ainés amongst you) will also receive something.

We got similar last year but nothing as yet after our October lunch was cancelled.

I had almost nothing last year, ‘because I’m no longer on the electoral roll’ though the Maire did bring me a parcel and his apologies… now I’m in a residence I don’t know what to think…!

Well I shall send you a 'virtual' Christmas gift Jo. Inside you will find happiness, peace, health, friends, some hugs and a drop of anything that you fancy.

In our case age is a factor. I think you have to be 70 or more

I'm not sure if I received a gift from my commune. I haven’t been sober since I received my Christmas bonus from HMG. HO! HO! HO!

It's always been a box of chocolates for the over-65s here. No repas and no voeux du Maire. When we got a new, young, ambitious Maire, he started doing a 'Voeux de l'année' which was just a platform for him to make an interminable speech telling us how wonderful he is Elderly people could die and be buried while he's proclaiming... Not even a box of choccies for OH this year Apparently some Brit volunteers in the village are organising a repas in January, Covid permitting, for which the oldies will have to pay. When I see what other communes do for their older residents, I do wonder how come ours is so mean!
