I think the following is reasonably correct, but don't take my word for it.... First, the terminology: On the Home page you have Categories and within the categories you have Boards, as in the image below, which I get by hovering over the navigation item 'The Other French Forum' (speaking as a Windows-based laptop user). Once you are on a Board, eg The Café, you can create a thread/topic (the two words are interchangeable) by clicking on Create Thread on the right of the Board title line: If you have contributed to a thread, you have participated, and when anyone else contributes to that thread, you will know because you will be notified by the New icon against the Participated button/field, as below, and clicking on that button will open a window showing the threads which have been updated:
Bookmarks are topics you have chosen to follow, by clicking on the Bookmark option, found as in the image below: You can see the topics you've chosen to follow by opening the Bookmarks option:
And that's enough for the moment.

So it appears that it's not possible to go directly to "new posts" (i.e. the whole forum) but only to those in a selected category?

Yeh thats what I use mostly, its the equivalent of active topics in the old forum for me........

If you click on the 'recent topics' menu button, this shows the most recent posts, by clicking on the thread you want to read, scroll down to the bottom of the page, that will be the last post, if the thread has numbers after it, click on the last number, this will take you to the latest page in the thread, then scroll to the bottom again.

But how do I know on what page the last post I read was on? I think on the old FF there was a button that took you there directly.

How do you get to last read post in a topic please? See the image below (hovering will give you a preview, clicking it will open it in another tab/window)

I didn’t know that Neither did I until I noticed that hoveringover New showed an address on the bottom of the page, whereas hovering over the other area, in the column headed 'Last post' didn't, so I clicked on a view topics to work out why.

But how do I know on what page the last post I read was on? I think on the old FF there was a button that took you there directly. There is a "NEW" tag to the left of the topic. If you click on it it takes you to where you left off - well roughly anyway. Sometimes it seems to take me to a couple of posts I have already read before the new posts.
