I'm curious whether anyone can think of a valid medical reason why an ambulatory person cannot wear a mask. I'm serious. I mean a reason other than being precious.

Heard an interesting statistique today, which was also surprising, that over 12% of 80+ year olds, in France, hadn't been vaccinated,it didn't say the circumstances why, the other big group being teenagers which was a more obvious reason of not being a priority group.

Whilst I don't know their ages, I can give an example that explains how certain people decide to not get vaccinated. The parents of one of the guys that cuts my hair were both against getting vaccinated because his sister is an anti vacciner and told them all sorts of things. He is vaccinated and tried to persuade them otherwise but they stayed with the advice of his sister. Unfortunately the mother subsequently died from covid. Very sad, he no longer talks to his sister. I don't know if his father has now been vaccinated as my hairdresser has moved on. Everything that can be done to persuade people to get vaccinated needs to be done.

The decision to be unvaxxed is not based on logic or critical understanding therefore non-vaxxers won't be swayed by logical argument. Having shown that the carrot fails, it is surely time for the stick. Even then there's no vaccine against stupidity.

Some people with trigeminal neuralgia find anything touching their face can trigger an attack..People with dementia, autism or certain learning disabilities or syndromes may well not be able to tolerate a mask.

Some would say I have learning difficulties but I can wear a mask. We get colds every year but since covid and mask wearing no colds.

I'll give you trigeminal neuralgia. I'll give you a few members of the other groups you mentioned. So we are looking at 1% or less of the population . I would posit that the majority of people who claim they can't wear masks don't fall into any group other than the terminally precious attention seekers and pathologically obstinate and contrary.

Seems to me they are just different strategies to achieve the same end of herd immunity, which as we now know does not work as such since the virus keeps mutating and is now re-infecting. What we can be pleased with is that having been infected or having been vaccinated provides a degree of protection in terms of severity. Maybe as the current Omicron waves subside we can indeed look at a return to more normal life, with only the vulnerable sheltering. Interesting to look at the signatories of the Barrington Declaration much vaulted as being 60,000 medical professionals: this list – which anyone could sign online and which required merely clicking a checkbox to claim the status of "scientist" – contains numerous clearly-fake names, including "Mr Banana Rama", "Dr Johnny Bananas", "Dr Johnny Fartpants", "Dr Person Fakename", "Harold Shipman", "Professor Notaf Uckingclue", and "Prof Cominic Dummings"
