Seems that ours has gone on the blink.
It was a Panasonic.
I thought that they were supposed to be slightly upmarket.
seems not.
Can anybody recommend a particular mark?

Seek and ye shall find Perhaps I have done that and it worked for me on our rental property microwave. I have always gone for Panasonic as I believed are the pioneers of microwaves, however our last combination one which I bought online was I thought a stainless steel casing but when it arrived it was plastic sprayed silver but still does a good job. We had a fitted kitchen a few years back and a built in Neff microwave (not combination) was included, very pleased you can even put metal containers in it, in fact, it instructs you, if you were boiling a cup of milk or reheating a drink (not that I ever would in a microwave) to put a metal teaspoon in the cup.

Great minds.
I think that I just need to get a new wave guide.
In normal circumstance I don’t think it would be too much of a problem, but…….
that reminds me of when I was working on the BIAT May 1985 in Athens

Not much help here as mine is 40 years old, I’ve always fancied one of those Panasonic flat bed jobs, combi oven and grill they’re about £390 last time I looked but could be a good fuel/space saver.

We bought our first ever microwave a couple of years ago, a Candy CMXW20D something. I’ve no idea what the power levels are on it and the instructions give no hint either. There’s a load of set programmes and the the option of P100, P080 and down. On the occasion we’ve bought a frozen microwavable ready meal the microwave seems to take about 6 times longer to cook than the packet instructions say. As they usually give a power to cook on like say 900 or 500 and there is no equivalent on the microwave itself it’s complete guesswork. Might have to trade it in for another or are they all as useless as mine or just use it to heat up soup (which is quicker on the hob anyway) Complete crap. I remember my mum’s microwave was like a nuclear reactor and used to heat up stuff in seconds and cook a jacket spud in minutes, this one seems to be pretty powerless. Edit - I used the defrost option yesterday to defrost some frozen chicken stock - 15 mins later there was a slight thawing around the edges.....

jackieYour machine seems to be 700 watts max output .. which is not a lot. If you aim for a slightly bigger, more powerful (say 900 watts) machine then you might be happier with the results. Ours (Lidl at around 45€ a few years ago) is excellent .. brilliant machine, which we wouldn't be without.

I have a Samsung combi smart oven (convection/micro). It is about 2 years old. I bought it thinking I would save on time and electricity using a smaller convection oven when cooking for just the two of us. Not so with regards to time and I don't know about the electricity. About 6 months ago the electronic display failed inasmuchas you cannot see all the parts of the number displayed. On initial investigation, it appears to be the motherboard and it is not worth replacing. I wouldn't buy a combi again.

As Limousin Lady says Combi microwaves don't appear to the job of the original combi microwaves. 35 years years ago I bought a Moulinex Combi Microwave and you could cook a roast chicken in 18 minutes as the microwave and oven feature worked together, the modern ones don't appear to do that, we use our oven part for cooking small quantities as it saves time and electricity over using our 900mm wide Neff double oven.

I have a Samsung combi smart oven (convection/micro). It is about 2 years old. We had a Samsung combi microwave/grill oven approx 20 years ago .. it was great and lasted for years and years. I'm not sure they are built to the same standard as they were then ..

I'm not sure they are built to the same standard as they were then .. I'm sure planned or built-in obsolescence has something to do with it now.

While that is possible, I think stuff lasts longer if it is kept clean and treated with care. I noticed that there looks to be a bit of a fracture in the old wave card. I think probably caused by knocking it with the edge of a bowl.
