A bit of window dressing methinks. Once they have managed to recruit back the 20,000 cops they reduced the force by a few years ago, then they might get around to putting one on the ferries. Getting a cop to come out to attend a robbery or burglary in progress will still remain on the bottom of the list of priorities.

Only Dover and Newcastle? Other ports are available to the baddies.

The officers will be from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary.CNC don’t attend burglaries etc , they are firearms trained as part of their basic training and they don’t count in the 20000 ‘new officers ‘ being recruited

As you find eddie's post a source of amusement, was this an indication you don't believe the CNC are up to the job of maritime security?

They probably won't be deployed actively. More likely just to sit and watch monitors.

Can someone remind me when the last arrest of a terrorist on a cross-Channel ferry took place?

Can someone remind me when the last arrest of a terrorist on a cross-Channel ferry took place? Maybe the terrorists thought the same and have been using them to enter the island. Seems there is not a lot of security on arrival or boarding.. A weak link now about to be filled.
Lots of 9-11 documentaries on the tv right now here - maybe a plan to hijack one and ram a tanker in the channel has been discovered.
Why would extra security be bad?

ibis, by and large, terrorist attacks in the UK and mainland Europe are perpetrated by home-grown individuals. I'm not saying extra security would be a bad thing, but surely there are better places to deploy what are effectively spare police officers.

Design fail.... why is the gun not height adjustable to avoid bending? why are the casings not collected to prevent going arse over tit when stood on? why is the gun sited in a corner of the deck, preventing a greater radius of operation? What is to stop the gun bobby from going overboard if he/she gets carried away and swings beyond the scuppers? It's not real.. a photoshop probably.
