Put the car into the local garage. They washed it for me and gave me a bill for €165. Oh -I forgot to say they put a new battery in.

Depends on the car; the first time I have had to get the garage to change a battery for me (Ford Kuga) it was well over 200€. No washing either.

No, this is a bargain. Proposing to move my mail box I went buy a pole with a mounting plate so I could position it away from the house. The cheapest at 26€ was a flimsy tube with a plate welded on and too short in my opinion. Duck fat, I thought, I'll make one. Piece of tubing from the recycling centre, weld a plate on and bingo. Went in today and there's this piece of heavy galvanised tube with a plate already welded. 2€50. I only have to dig a hole and mix some concrete.

Apart from the fact that there isn't one any where near me.

A good quality Bosch 090 fitment battery at a good price for my car was €100 delivered, add the garages margin and labour and €165 sounds reasonable for what was probably the smaller 027 size.

I have to say that I was going to fit the battery to the Kuga myself. And I probably would have bought a cheaper battery as I always switch the stop and start off every journey. But, it was well hidden and I didn't fancy taking too much off to get access. Frankly, I'd rather pay for our modern cars to be serviced and keep my time for looking after the classics. Much more fun but sometimes exasperating; usually with chinese sh*te repro parts that are so difficult to avoid.

I'm often amazed to hear how the other half live these days, and think its perfectly normal. I've bought cars for less than that.
