An extraordinarily naive thing for a Foreign Secretary to say and does smack of hypocrisy given the noise over UK IS recruits, unfortunately we're talking about someone who has raced up the greasy pole of politics at breakneck speed without possessing the wit nor intelligence for the job, any Brit caught by the Russians fighting for Ukraine would be used as a bargaining chip by Putin so people should be actively discouraged from going.

Outrageous that a foreign secretary should say that. I'd expect the Metropolitan Police to send her a sternly worded questionnaire.

Yes, she needs to sort out that dreadful case before encouraging others to take part in this war; several foreign secretaries have failed to get Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe home already - surely it doesn’t make sense to encourage others into positions where they would be in dire straits if captured. |

Regardless of going to fight in Ukraine or not, western Europeans and/or Americans will find themselves in captivity in Russia until frozen assets are released. That's why Mrs Ratcliffe is being held by Iran.
