We have just received this questionnaire from MAIF. My wife has always used them as it is the profs company. We have our modern cars and my car trailer insured with them. The excuse is a money laundering law. Most of the qustions they already know the answers but they want to know income and house value. I don't see that's any of their business ! I have cars insured with two other companies and haven't heard from them. Anyone else ?

I've not had anything and we moved house 2weeks ago and nothing was said or asked for.. You could always ask them for a copy of the said directtve,or threaten to change insurers to see what they say.

We have just received this questionnaire from MAIF. Normally, online, the parts you genuinely need to complete have an asterisk (often in red) against the question. If their 'survey' doesn't mention such an obligation then I would view their survey with suspicion.

Ask them to quote exactly which European law they are referring to. Since they do not quote it, tell them that you treat their mail as a scam and will not under any circumstances respond until they provide full and complete details together with full and complete legal justification for their demands.
Edit to add: do not do this as a reply to the email, but send the request to a known and reliable email for the company copying in the original request..

MAIF VIE is the life insurance / savings branch of MAIF.
I'm insured with MAIF (retired teacher) but I don't have any life insurance with them and haven't received any inquisitive questionnaire.

the question to be asked is what the email address is of the sender, not the one included in the "printed - posted" message.
include the header of the whole message or "float" above the sender in your email provider and see if it is "real" address from the company.
If it is, walk into the shop and get it sorted there.

Simple really , just ignore it . ( like the French would do ) If it is bonafide , they will send it again or contact you . It it is not , then the scammers will have " caught " those that they needed.

Is there a link in the email to go to? Hover above this. Is it a verifiable email address from your insurance company? If it is, walk into the shop and get it sorted there. Maybe, as no one else has had this inquiry, your name starting with a "C" has just been first in line.

You say that but then something happens and you are then back on the forum saying "how bad this insurance company is" cause they cancelled your insurance...

They cannot without giving you notice by LRAR.
Says the man who ended up interdit bancaire through the vindictiveness of Credit Lyonnaise for exactly the same reason, I got so peed off with them wanting me to send them a copy of the same passport that they asked for every year that I finally ignored the requests.
The idiots at some stage decided I was not French resident and started sending statements to my UK address, when I tried to put it right they said that "informatiquement I had never lived in France & they had never had any record of my French address & that they had never sent any statements to it, when presented with my cheque book which had my French address written plainly on every cheque plus statements sent to and carrying that address they just gave the shoulder shrug.
So the future requests for my inside leg measurement which they called "Know your customer" (yes in English!) which they claimed was EU law were sent to my empty house in the UK as was the notification that they were closing my account.
Declaring me interdit bancaire with the Banque de France was just pure spite.
Nonetheless I still do what Cernunnos advocates and just ignore stuff like that.

French insurance companies can't just cancel your insurance, that is the law in France.
If it is a scam , it will go away , if not ( which I doubt) they will repeat the request

I had something very similar from my house insurance provider (CA) last year.
It did ask what my salary was. I just put €100k.
