Pretty much everything is damaging the planet. Suck it up guys, or freeze to death.

Making wood pellets is an industry that has made wood burning stoves readily available to the masses. It is far simpler to buy wood in pellet form in the supermarket than to buy and burn wood in log form . Those that live in the countryside have used wood for heating for generations. Pellet stoves , just another way of making money from the " eco-friendly " population in Europe.

We have a similar set-up, our main source of heat comes from four wood burners on the ground floor (using a mix of 'buches', cut wood and scraps that I get through work) plus electric rads in every room with temperature controls so they'll only kick-in when it's really cold. As Mr A says, most heating systems are bad for the planet so it comes down to what you can afford, I certainly wouldn't want to fork out 2K for a tank of oil a couple of times a year. We had the diagnostics done on the house last month and the guy who carried out the report said we should install a heat pump, total cost for a house of our size is north of 30K, I would need to live another 30 years just to get the money back.

Always thought wood pellets were a bit of a con, a neighbour of ours in the UK has just had a wood pellet stove installed, removing a perfectly serviceable multifuel stove. He is now annoyed that when he costed it some time ago the the pellets were X now they are X+25%, my wood delivery in the UK has gone up £5 a flat bed load in 18 months.
Other neighbour who bought a Tesla 6 months ago has just had the reality check of lack of charging points/or always being used and charging from home has gone up 50%.
Not trying to be smug but I would always wait till the majority has switched to whatever eco friendly new idea is around before getting rid of something that still has plenty of life in it.

That is a bit of an eye opener with the cost of charging the car. We were going to look at a Pellet stove before I pinched the Pellet article from ATS.

Eco friendly is all very well if you have the cash to jump on the latest bandwagon and the lifespan to take advantage of any unlikely long term savings.
A friend of mine bought into the idea but hated it. It was noisy, expensive, and he still had to store and carry the pellets into the machine. When he sold up to move house he asked if I was interested in a free pellet burner. I declined.

Watch this thread ( 1 month) for our companies newest product... Something that does the same job but reduces waste going to the landfill instead of cutting trees down to warm the rich.

Well on the other hand we are more than happy with our pellet burner and may I suggest the ones against them have never had one fitted and as for cost, anyone like to inform me of any type of fuel that has gone down or stayed the same this year, here in France I can't think of anything.

I never knew that, we went for a pellet burner, like a few of our friends had already done, didn't know it had much to do with eco, we had electric rads which basically in a hard winter would need to be on all day to keep our house warm. Our pellet burner warms upstairs in our house very nicely and often we have to turn it off as it gets too warm. We had wood burners in our previous homes but there comes a time when it just gets too much like hard work and pellet burners and the pellets are less bovver than a hovver, hang on that was a phrase for something else!

Do you have rads connected to your pellet stove or is it a stand alone one. We put in a 21kw wood burner a few years ago and it's the best wood burner ever. It keeps the house warm.

That should keep the whole commune warm.
