Do you have rads connected to your pellet stove or is it a stand alone one. We put in a 21kw wood burner a few years ago and it's the best wood burner ever. It keeps the house warm. 21kw! That should keep the whole commune warm. It goes down to minus 20 here on a bad year.

Interesting article, Mysty2 but seems to me that the problem lies in the huge amounts of biomass needed to run power stations rather than the domestic market.
The ‘Flamino’ pellets we buy for our stove claim to be from sustainable sources of French wood according to the website blurb. We are very happy with our pellet stove which is fully programmable and thermostatically controlled. We used to run 2 woodburners and would never go back to that as a main source of heating.
I think the most important thing is to insulate as much as possible which will reduce the amount of whatever type of fuel needed for heating. homes. Our fuel bills in our 4 year old sheep's wool and other materials insulated eco home are a fraction of those of our previous stone longere for heating a similar surface area. The stove heats the whole house with around 3-4 bags of pellets a week in the coldest weeks. I know not everyone is in a position to do this but it really has brought home to us how much difference proper insulation can make.

Well on the other hand we are more than happy with our pellet burner and may I suggest the ones against them have never had one fitted and as for cost, anyone like to inform me of any type of fuel that has gone down or stayed the same this year, here in France I can't think of anything. Hi Omegal What make of pellet burner have you got and the set up, just rads or hot water as well. Also if you don't mind what was the approximate cost to buy and install. Thanks in advance.

Hi, the make we found at Leroy Merlin, it is a Nordica Extraflame around 8kw all in cost including fitting, more materials and labour required than a wood burner. Final cost was just over €4000. From what I read prices are looking like they are coming down in price. Shop around and read any with recommendations. Our pellet burner was purely for heating which it does very well.
