Need a replacement front door?
I have a top quality front door I need to shift ASAP. Clear finished solid oak inside with a factory primed paint finish outside (possibly aluminium). It has two double glazed panels in the top half and two classic fielded panels at the bottom. This was originally supplied for someone at a cost approaching €1000 but was rejected by the client. It is brand new, never fitted, and is undamaged. Just a little dusty. It is a very heavy door, so much so I can’t lift it to even move it about, let alone fit it.
It measures 214.5cm x 98cm (38.5” x 84.5”) and comes without a frame.
First person to arrive with suitable muscle power can take it away for nothing. It is in the way and I need it gone. Located near Plougonver, 22810.

Nice gesture and I'd love to take you up on it but it's too distant for me.

That's always the problem. France is too big and local communications too limited to advertise effectively. I can't even get this out of the house and onto my trailer, if I could there would still be the problem of getting it off at the tip.

I feel your pain. Has anyone else noticed how heavy placo is now comparedwith 10 years ago?

Get some help to put it at the roadside. It'll be gone in the morning

If I could get help to lift it I wouldn't be giving it away. I had to wait until a friend came over from UK a month ago to help me load some sheets of 10mm placo onto my trailer and into my front room. I have been using the thin stuff instead of 13mm because of the weight. I have managed to fit 6 of the sheets so far and now need the door moved to get to the rest of the working area. It's a bummer getting old and weak.

Make up a dolly (probably wrong word) to move it and it will help with all your sheet materials like placo.
You need 2 wheels something like those on a sackbarrow, a piece of 20mm conduit to act as the axle, washers and split pins to retain the wheels, a couple of 10 or 12" lengths of 6"x1" shuttering timber one ripped into 2 x 3" lengths and screwed to the sides of the other to form a U channel, the axle sits centrally underneath with the wheels outside.
Mine has saved my back many many times with fire doors, OSB, plywood, placo, concrete panels etc, only one person needed to load, move around and unload, as long as you can tip the object you dont have to be able to lift it.

To lift and move placo around from the pile to the job site:
Lean one plaque vertically against the wall, shuffle backwards to it and grasp both sides from behind as low down as you can, lean forward with legs straight and carry it with the weight taken by your arms and back.

Take a photo and advertise it at 20€ (or whatever) in your nearest mini-market, tabac or wherever has a notice-board for small ads ..

pcpa - As usual, a practical solution to a problem. But...... my main difficulty has been lifting the boards on and off the trailer, and getting them up two small steps into the house. I can only just manage to lift a 10mm board up off the floor but lifting it up to the vertical is dodgy because it is very floppy so Mrs A has to help keep it from breaking it in half as I get it vertical enough to move it toward the wall. I have the components to hand to knock up your little transporter but not much help with my heavy door. The door is currently vertical leaning against a wall. Mrs. A and I tried this morning to move it. Anything more than about ten degrees of vertical it is too heavy to keep upright. We can't stop it falling and it would crush the pair of us. So the first thing to get it outside would be to get it flat on the floor, then lift it up lying on its long edge. Still too heavy to control in that position while I use crowbars or whatever to lift it onto any sort of trolley. If nobody wants it by next weekend I'll smash the windows and then have a go at cutting it up into smaller pieces that I can lift. Might be difficult because the outside face is aluminium clad and overall too thick for my jigsaw blades to cope with.
