Looks more like the intercooler from the size of the hoses feeding it.
Aircon condensor is foutu also, cant see if there is the engine coolant radiator behind it or its condition.

I only saw them when I enlarged it, the small size made me think like you that it must be an oil cooler, it looked too small for a charge cooler on a performance vehicle like that but on closer inspection it is very deep and multi-core.
Something is missing above it though I reckon, it was made compact like that to make space for something else, maybe the fans, maybe the engine radiator.
Don't feel bad though, I have made the same mistake with the radiators right in front of my nose, I went to disconnect the bottom radiator hose to drain the system, it felt a little too soft when squeezed and I could not feel the coolant inside, it was in fact the intercooler.
The order on my TDi is from front to rear:
Aircon condensor - about 3/4 of the height of the other radiators
Turbo intercooler - full height
Engine coolant - full height
Cooling fans large and small.

Don't forget new head lights as well.
