Our front door has an old fashioned looking inset rectangular door lock with integral handles inside and out and a large key. Inside the lock the mechanism has 3 leaf springs, two of which are broken. We're getting nowhere trying to make contact with a local locksmith - they all seem to be mobile in vans.
I searched on the Leroy Merlin site for 'verrou' but get loads of gate bolts and such like and nothing resembling our lock. Should I be searching for something else?
Any ideas please about how to go about finding a replacement lock? Ours will almost certainly be around 50 years old.

Duh .............. I'd been searching for a local serrurier, but never made the link. Thankyou flober, we'll use that as a search.

Best way would be to take off the old lock and take it with you to the shop to make sure the new one will fit. Bricomarche have quite a big selection, I was able to find an old-fashioned lock for a shed door there recently, but if no luck there try on-line - Screwfix?

Thanks Crystal. Bricomarche in Confolens? That would be very handy, so we'll give it a go.

Sorted! Biggles went over to Bricomarche (thanks for the tip Crystal) and bought a lock with identical innards. The new lock seemed flimsy though and the keys didn't have the character of the old ones. So he took the springs out and replaced the broken ones on the original lock. It works perfectly again.
