We often have red leg patridges in the garden. They bring their young in to feed on the bird seed. But today was special. Mum, dad and 11 babies. 11 little balls of fluff. Walked straight passed the cat who paid them absolutely no attention whatsoever. Wonderful.

We had one a few years back who sought refuge in our chicken pen for 4-5 months after the maize harvest over the road, we actually think he thought he was a chicken and the chickens accepted him, until one afternoon he was stood on top of the low level chicken house and he heard the call of a female and then instinct took over and he was gone, love a red legged partridge !

Unbeknown to us one had nested in a flower bed below the bedroom window.we only realised when we saw her with 12 chicks running round the courtyard. We kept the gates closed for a day to protect them and the next day they were off.We later found the nest with 1 egg still in it so 13 in total. Wonderful.

Wild life sightings are few and far between in Europe.... Cherish them...
Nice post... A photo would've been nice.

Do you live in a city perhaps? Even then, I expect you see the odd bird which will be some consolation. And yes, a photo would have been nice, but to do so would have disturbed the birds and I'd rather they feed. Perhaps next time.

The "love a red legged partridge" is that I love to look at them but have never or would never eat one

I'm a meat eater and have eaten partridge here in France. I expect it was farmed rather than wild.

Red leg partridges, tasty. Bon appétit. I love a bit of partridge myself. Don or Allan ? When this came out my mate brought it and it back to his place where we played snooker on his parents dining room table and played it non stop for hours. I was never really keen about Alan, though I think that my first camping experience was in his garden. My mate's sister was called Rosie but was a bit young at the time, but I took her older sister to the pictures.
