Today marks the start of the 150 British Open.
It’s being held, rather conveniently at the home of golf St Andrews.
All the big names are there including wild man Jon Daly who looks a mess but still a tidy player.
Some good groups on the course with Rory Mcilroy, defending champ Colin Morikawa and the interestingly named Xander Schauffele, winner of many tournaments playing together.
Conditions are just about perfect so we should see some good scores.

I am going to be callous here and say that part of me hopes that it is a complete wash out.
The Open is one of Britain's major sporting events that appeals to those who like sport in general and not only avid golfers, yet all that can be see by the Nationals of the country where the event is played is a short period of highlights at the end of the day - unlike Wimbledon that broadcasts every grunt, groan and shout for the full two weeks. It would be interesting to take a poll to find out the potential popularity of the Open versus Wimbledon. Me, I would rather The Open is aired for four afternoons in preference...
I appreciate that it is all about money these days, but for what? Just so that a few corporates can be richer and a few prima donna sports people get inflated prize money?

Or. It's all about having nothing to do but sit in front of the telly unless that is all you can do.

It’s all about enjoying golf, which is the whole point of the topic.
Good to see Tiger back, hopefully his back will survive 36 holes.
Old man Ernie Els showing he can still hit a ball with a fine -2.
Tiger struggling, sad to see such an icon looking very ordinary, time to park the golf bag…
An enjoyable opening day.

I remember golfing in Malaysia and two young boys were calling "Tiger Woods" in my direction. Of course, flattered as I was, I doffed my cap and gave them a cheery smile. It was just then the tiger leapt out of the woods.

As expected, Tiger misses the cut though the welcome extended to him as he walked along the 18th fairway brought him to tears.
More good playing conditions producing some great scores, game on.

My mates from Oz kept pushing Cameron Smith at me, they had taken odds of 25/1 and 22/1 but I just couldn't see it and I took a gamble on Rory at lower odds. Don't know what to say, some say Rory blew it and it looked that way when he 36 had putts i.e 2 on each green, almost unheard of with Rory but to be fair Smith kept his nerve and with a run of 5 successive birdies he deserved the prize....

Smith looked good from day 1. Rory bottled it on the last nine.

Betting wise both players odds shrunk after the first 18 holes. You were lucky to get 5/1 or 6/1 on both players. Yep Rory just couldn't buy a birdie....
