Ouch, he shouldn’t be allowed to buy or use any power tools 🤣

Using an angle grinder should be illegal without eye protection.

The pro machine uses a circular saw allegedly, I can't see it close enough to decide.
My petrol disc cutter has a transverse roller as I used it for cutting similar grooves into tarmac or concrete road surfaces for vehicle detection loops, something less overkill would do the job very well for a robot mower, a diamond blade is ideal for soil.

I have looked at getting a couple of these for a while, but the thought of laying a few hundred meters of buried cable has put me off, however after doing some research there is a new generation of these robot mowers due out this year, they just use GPS, so no wire's, but how accurate they are, and at what price I dont know.

I've not tried it, but wouldn't cutting in soil have the risk of throwing small stones at the user?

I don't think that it is a GPS system , more a LPS (local). Stick a few receivers around the perimeter or something like that.

I've not tried it, but wouldn't cutting in soil have the risk of throwing small stones at the user? It's mental on every level. Dangerous, impractical, back breaking, messy. It has nothing going for it. A 9" angle grinder has around 3" cutting depth, the same as a half moon edging iron which, funnily enough, is designed for the job. And the scar would be invisible in a couple of days.

Maybe not the scar from the flying stones though.

Of course that's possible. I suggest a local positioning system would be more matching the pocket of the household gardener

I had no idea these things needed wire I thought they must be smart. Forget GPS I use ATS. Costs very little.

The mowers used to cut football pitches use GPS along with a base station (real time kinetics) but this adds a grand to the cost.
The problem with gardens is overhanging trees and garden walls blocking the satellite transmission.
The perimeter wire is nice and simple, about half a day to set it up provided the soil isn't hard and dry.
The ATS technology is preferable, but quite expensive if you consider the whole package.
