My little courgettes at about 4 inches (I usually pick when 6 inches long),are developing yellow tips which feel squidgy. They're not laying on damp soil
Some are OK if I pick them in time.
What am I doing wrong, or what can I do to stop this.

Pray for more sun and a bit less rain. Some varieties seem more prone to this problem than others. My yellow courgettes are doing the same but the green, the striped and the round ones are (touch wood) OK.

I agree with exile on this one. Being in Normandie I get quite a few of the squidgy-yellow-end problem most years, especially with the first few of my courgettes. This year I haven't had so many so far, so it may be that I sowed late (which I did) or that the new varieties I've been trying are better on that front....

Flower end rot. Removing the flower after the courgette has germinated helps to prevent it.
