Extinction Rebellion is filling up the golf holes in the city of Toulouse with cement. View Attachment
Utter rubbish when they say Golf Courses are exempt (Daily Mail report and usual lazy journalism) Courses here in Brittany and throughout France are not allowed to water the fairways or tees but can water the greens at a reduced rate, which after all it is there business with thousands of golfers playing an annual fee which pays for the workers to keep the course playable. Played today, greens good, fairways and tees brown and burnt. The point here, anyone that knows about green keepers and their jobs is that a new hole can be cut in minutes and the concrete can be dug out and the new hole earth filled in where the concrete was..Basically quite a stupid thing to do really!

Well done Extinction Rebellion. People can’t water their vegetable gardens but golf courses must stay green. A lot of older people here in Brittany are on low agricultural pensions and probably grow vegetables to help save money. What a crazy world…. Basically that is not true, Jackie, it is only the greens that are exempt, the far larger majority of a golf course, the fairways and tees are not exempt and many, just like the course where I am a member are burnt and brown. The watering is down to 20% of their normal amount of watering to keep the greens alive, so to speak, it is their business after all. Car washes have been told to not allow self wash facilities but allow their car washes to open, garden centres are allowed to keep their stock watered. Public swimming pool like the huge water centre outside St Malo can top up the water in the pools. So as ever a story blown out of all proportion.

But farmers and market gardeners (on whom we all rely for a fair proportion of our food) are banned from watering except with their own water resources.
So it's playing a-round or eating.

Same thing Exile, you can plan for both, it's not one or the other. What did cernunnos say the other day about planning ahead when it come to resources!

And what did someone else say about farmers refused the opportunity to build reservoirs to meet their plan?

And what did someone else say about farmers refused the opportunity to build reservoirs to meet their plan? I have never heard of farmers in France being refused permission for water storage. In fact, last year, subsidies were being given to cap and use springs on farming land to decrease the pressure on the local water authorities , farms use a lot of water .
Before I connected the spring to our system , we were paying €1000/year for water.

Some posts have been removed from this thread either because they were totally irrelevant or because they contained personal insults.

fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lac_de_Caussade. This is a big issue in 47, as not only was Caussade firstly approved, then refused, but loads of applications for smaller, individual reservoirs were turned down. Utterly stupid, as there is usually an excess of water for a good six months of the year.

I have just found the comment - on another forum. Apparently the Prefecture of Lot et Garonne has banned to building of new reservoirs for agriculteurs.

Wikipédia ne possède pas d'article avec ce nom. ( I read) It's all news to me, perhaps there is a link to something that says this ? The Ch.de Ag. Haute Vienne, sent various mails about subsidies to help farmers aquire their own water.
Maybe the ban was on accessing the water to fill new reservoirs ?
a little later
I read the article . It was a lake that was built without permission and the Farmers were taken to court by the Ecologists and the Ecologists won. The lake is still there and is used by the farmers that built it. The discussion is between changing the way that is farmed or continue to plant crops that need a lot of water.

Just a slight correction....the Caussade farmers did have approval when they started the project but the Prefecture changed their minds and withdrew it. Nature would have filled it....no need for any human help ;-)

Basically it is a difference of opinion about how farming should proceed in the future ? Either the same 'ol same'ol and paid for by subsidies , or change to incoporate the climate changes that will arrive .

It takes about three minutes to cut a new hole. There are much more interesting and destructive ways to damage a golf green, cheaper too probably. The ER merchants at Toulouse are a bunch of bozos.

They also dug up some greens with hoes. That’s easily repaired. Where I worked wild boar were an everyday occurrence with unbelievable damage and time spent on repairs. No, the easiest ways to destroy greens grass are far more simple.
