MOH asks
‘We are going to UK next month. We use orange fr for our mobile phone. Is data roaming still free in the UK? I have looked online and it’s not very clear.’
Has anyone got any further info on this please?

Do you mean is data roaming included in your contract? If so what does your contract state? Normally if you have roaming enabled it includes data.

I cannot answer re. Orange, but SFR allow free roaming for data and calls in the UK, or the OH's contract does. They also provided an extra SIM to enable calls to UK moby's, FREE, but there is a limit of 2hrs a month. If you have a EU supplier, are not roaming charges 'banned'.

Yes I have data roaming in my contract.
That was MOH. But, she adds that she had heard that some companies had stopped it at normal rates, it was possible but at exorbitant rates. She just wanted to make sure.

Some UK companies no longer allow roaming in Europe, but I thought it was still against the law not to allow roaming by EU companies.

I reckon the contract is for 20 Gigaoctets (French equivalent to gigabytes) per month and 2 hours of calls per month.

But doesn't it depend on whether Orange believes that the UK is still part of Europe after Brexit ?
Why not either ring or visit an Orange shop and ask them to clarify the terminology.

My OH had a "bundle" with Vodaphone. He paid £10 a month for UK calls & use. They no longer support EU usage.
He paid an extra £8 for this, but it was a rip off. When he tried to use his data in France it wasn't allowed.

I am currently using roaming data from Free.fr in the UK to read this forum without any noticable limitation, for me nothing has changed, its the same as 4 years ago.
I have however fallen foul with the €2 Free simcard in the dumbphone, for some reason I had to put a seperate €10 credit on the account by debit card to enable roaming even though the monthly bills are taken direct from my bank, if I go over the 2 hours they just take more money, I could not understand why roaming charges should be any different or require a deposit.
Anyway this month while in France I made 3 calls to the UK, solicitor and estate agent which took me over the €10 and theys ent me a text to say so but nothing about what would happen or what to do. The phone was still working for calls & texts in France even though I had also gone over the 120 minutes inclusive but that is how it has always been, the prélèvement will simply be more than €2, actually they dont take a prélèvement for the €2 as its free for a Free ADSL customer, maybe that is the problem.
In my espace perso there was nowhere I could see to add another €10 deposit or more and when I hit UK soil the phone stopped working including for incoming calls from France which is a nuisance.
Does anyone know how to overcome this if indeed it can be, I realise its effectively a social tarif so limitations for overseas use are understandable to push you to the €20 tarif, that phone used as a hotspot still has internet access and can make and recieve calls.
