We picked up a PVC door for I think 490 its from bricodepot so easy to check, it was under 500. You can pay a lot of money for one this was a nightmare to fit, I had to adjust one of the locking thingies as it was not in the right spot. It took hours to find out what was wrong. Started at 2 today and did not get it plastered until 6.30. Next time will go for a better quality one. The old one New one which does look better

Mysty2, finding a fitting an old door would probably have been even more time consuming. A quick translation of the introduction my friend Christian le Bricoleur once wrote for his website: Refurbishing doors, windows and their locks/hinges. You can, of course, replace all the old doors with new ones from the hardware store. They exist as bloc-porte plane, as postformé, classic and sapin and of course en chêne. And the old ones then end up here, at the collection point for old doors, photographed on the premises of a company that installs plastic doors and windows. Pity, many still seem worth refurbishing! But the boss of this company told me that he can sell some of the old doors and windows very well, sometimes he earns more on these than on the new ones. I did things differently; I left the old doors in place where I could, rekeyed them, overhauled the hardware, or installed new old-style hardware where necessary. Would you like that too? I'll show you how it can be done with the resources available to a handyman.

Sorry, mysty, but I do prefer the old one! Lets in more light and you can hang a pretty curtain. I'm just not keen on modern. But I'm sure the new one offers more security and weatherproofing.

My pet peeve is the nasty white Pvc mock Georgian panel doors with the fanlight at the top. Makes me wanna puke when I see it on an older house of character. (edit: they look even more ridiculous on a modern house that is otherwise devoid of any architectural merit). Sadly I see the exact thing pretty much everywhere in the world (in the background on TV programs). They don't appear to know the fanlight is meant to be above the door, not part of it.

New one which does look better I would be more interested in a photo from the outside, the inside looks plain but then they usually do, any mouldings or decorations are on the outside.

You can pay a lot of money for one this was a nightmare to fit, I had to adjust one of the locking thingies as it was not in the right spot. I feel for you, with the multi-point locking its very hard to see which one is catching and not allowing the key to turn fully, the frame has to be placed exactly plumb & without any twist & the door has to be hung precisely and there are myriad adjustments, when you finally get everything correct after a week it has all moved. It's very rare to find a UPVC door that closes and locks on the key without a push, pull, tweak or kick in one direction or another, the only rigid thing in them is the glass if it has been shimmed correctly, the bigger the glazed area the better they hold their shape, porte fenetres being the best.

Pictures tonight when we finish the pvc door is perfect now and locks 🔒 not sure if it's a design fault but to put the top screw into the handle you need to drill through a metal plate.

It's the cheapest one to buy and looks cheap and nasty. ☺ 299 euros

The old door was very dated and really needed changed as it was just single glazed. I would not put a PVC door in our home but this property is just for resale and its a modern house. The old doors are being reused just not by us.

It looks good and the élargisseur does not look out of place, from memory I think the entrance door is at the back or side of the house, is that right? I recall being confused by its absence on the photos and floor plans you shared, I could only see the inside staircase.
It looks very similar to the house I bought, condition far worse, price far higher but a fantastic location and I have no regrets.
I have a new phone so might even be able to share some photos soon, I have a similar 60's single glazed wooden front door, for its time it was very elegant and upmarket, I really like the style but I could not live with the single glazing and nobody else would see its beauty, also I want to remove every single trace of everything in the house of horrors, I know the walls haev to stay but they will have doublage, the ceilings will have new ones suspended under them, basically it is so minging that when I finally live in it I do not want to be able to touch anything that is there.
I have to use the toilet, it's the only time I venture onto l’étage I've changed the seat and will soon be changing the pan & cistern, when I go up to it I wont touch anything, its like the worst loos on an aire d'autoroute where you use your elbows for everything, even though my hands are filthy from renovation work I wont touch anything up there; When I start up there everything is first going to be sprayed with bleach, I bought several different spray guns, jets and wands for the job.
