Indeed, because until then the Middle East was so stable... Iraq was kept together by Sadam , but was then left in limbo when the Americans had destroyed everything . Why did Bush invade another country ? Stable, yer having a grin! For the first 8–9 years of Saddam’s presidency, Iraq was embroiled in a brutal war with Iran that cost hundreds of thousands of lives on both sides and ended up as a stalemate. During this period there were collaborations between the Iraqi Kurdish and the Iranians, which lead to atrocious reprisals (see: Operation Anfal)- the most infamous being the gassing of Halabja, killing over 5000 in March 1988.

You are of course quite right about the Middle East, mostly caused by interventions from the West . The kurds don't see themselves as Iraquis, the Iraquis were armed ( including the gas ) by the Americans and Kuwait was Iraq etc etc. I just have a dislike to the Americans "messing" in other countries, usually with catastrophic results.

Amen to that. About ten years ago I read an article that contained a list of countries that the US had earmarked for "regime change". I think they have managed about half on that list so far, and as you say "with catastrophic" results. They love to meddle...........from a safe distance.

When the USA can't sort itself out, why on earth would it think it can sort out other countries?

I am not "wise after the event " I was wise when it happened , it wasn't neccessary to attack Iraq. You compared WW2 with Iraq , not I
How much did the USA pay the UK for turning up in Iraq?
Fitst point: so was anybody else with any knowledge of the situation Last question, ask Tony.
