That's what I thought. I just hope someone, somewhere with the clout challenges the legality of doing this. What would that achieve? it seems a very reasonable well thought out measure given the current circumstances, all ballons have a resistance sized to heat the whole cylinder contents from 15°C in 5.5 hours so even if they are not giving you the full 8 hours at night which I'm sure they are your ballon will still heat with cheap (not very) rate electricity, it might not be quite as warm in the evenings as it currently is, if you have a timer on the washing machine for mid-day then change it to after midnight. You think so? In a country where the main meal is eaten at midday? Unlike you, pcpa, I'm not just thinking about 'how this affects me'. Schools and EHPADs for example...are they exempt from these measures? I've passed on the good news to OH. It'll give him something to do, monitoring the consumption to see exactly what's going on. Linky...the new TV .... On a personal level, I don't have a problem with setting machines to run overnight, even though it's strongly unrecommended by insurers. I'm going to have a severe problem this winter, though, when I'm not allowed to batch cook during the day in periods of lousy weather. That leaves decorating as the only alternative Absolute bummer!

How dare you say that I'm just thinking about how it affects me! I never eat at lunch time
Yesterday I put the washing machine on before leaving to help a friend for the day, returning last night it was still pumping out water on the rinse & spin cycle, the Linky meter was flashing rapidly (high current) and the 100 litre ballon was luke warm, I resolved the problem only a couple of minutes ago, Mr Magoo had swopped the hot and cold water connections
I would have been very happy for my ballon to have not been heating against a constant water flow around lunchtime, thankfully it was well water and thats getting refilled as we speak.
Schools, Lycées Ephads etc wont be on tarif bleu so will not have HP/HC, the measures are in part to ensure continuity of supply to them.

Department technicalities: 1/ No rocket science involved, works with LINKY, the electronic SAGEM meter and even the old compteur bleu.A simple, very slow and robust digital protocol by the name of PULSADIS, introduced half a century ago by the EDF. In the fifties they already managed to switch on and off streetlights without manually toggling a switch.....They simply don't send the HP/HC piece of the protocol into the grid.... 2/ Simple solution available: the - I - position of the contacteur jour/nuit. The coil of this relay ( measured DC resistance) doesn't get energized. 3/ Indeed, reading technical stuff and not believing everything that the EDF or "others" are writing is not always easy. It took me several years as of 2008 to convince several QUE-CHOISIR experts that they should pay attention to other information sources than only the EDF PR to get a balanced picture of the pros and cons of smart metering....

Ah..I know this one OH has a particular brand of logic, all his own, which means that some of the H/C connections in the house are reversed to the norm. Then there are the connections that I insisted be re-done so as not to confuse guests. Then there are the ones he surreptitiously put back to his way of thinking The upshot is that I no longer have any idea whether turning a tap to 'hot' will result in the desired effect or whether I'll be standing there 3 minutes later still waiting to see..... so extremely wasteful of metered water. This is the same chap that got all fanatical about collecting grey water throughout last summer's drought Collected it, but never actually emptied any of the disgusting containers anywhere outside. The staff had to do that bit

No, Sue. My 'problem' just has his take on things, and a total inability to accept that the rest of the world sees it differently We'll be having a lot of visitors next year, though, so hopefully that will provide me with an excuse to get things put right
