I remember a while back , there was a thread about this , I think started by Houpla ? I recieved this , this morning , from the Ch.d'Ag.
So you can get a grant to make an irrigation pond , if you are a farmer.

That’s interesting because twenty five odd years ago the construction of new lakes was seriously frowned upon in the 87.Where I worked we had permission for three big lakes, the first was constructed which was a functional lake providing irrigation but the last two we’re never created. I wonder if permission for the remaining two still technically exists ?

There was an enormous hooha in 47 when planning permission was given to a syndicate of agriculteurs to create a 20ha communal irrigation lake but once work had started the Préfecture changed their minds and refused to allow them to finish it. Tant pis....they went ahead and did it anyway I believe they're still battling to get it legalised. If there's a general change in attitude from on high perhaps a bit of common sense is prevailing at last and farmers will be allowed to stock the excess water in winter and early spring for use in summer and autumn. There was another solution used up to the border between the Gers and the Lot et Garonne......snow melt is piped from the Pyrénées right across the Haute Garonne and the Gers. The water is metered but at least it's there if they need it!
