Am i right in thinking the deadline date for being able to install/replace an oil boiler was extended?
If so, what is the forcasted date now for them being illegal to install?

So if our boiler now fails, what are our choices? can we replace with a new one, or just replace spare parts? why can you still buy them online?

In theory, you have to replace with an alternative source of energy. That's why the Gov is pushing the grants for PACs. In practice, while you can still get parts and find someone to fit them or DIY, no-one's going to come round and rip it out! Perhaps it will end up like the fosse débâcle....those who ignore the new regs just potter along as they've always done ETA: It's a tricky situation for 2nd home owners, because unless you're in the French tax system, I don't think you're eligible for a grant, but don't quote me on that! It's usually only for an installation by an agreed artisan or Company, though, and only covers a proportion of the hardware.

PAC being some sort of air source heat pump system? If so, they only work efficiently in a small number of houses and are very expensive, given we are second home owners, no grant would be available for us i guess.......

You could try this simulation...https://mon-energie-solidaire.fr/ma-prime-renov-pac/?gclid=CjwKCAiAzp6eBhByEiwA_gGq5Gcbq33EcGDaQtgRvwNu7TCtoVTajmX-zrGGEsgxA8z0ag6hL0oDZRoCCUoQAvD_BwE but be sure to put a fake phone number and e-mail address unless you want to be bombarded with spam! If nothing else, it might make clear whether you have to be tax-resident...

PACs can be air/eau, eau/eau, gaz/eau and probably other combinations too. The most common are air/eau and air/air and I quite agree, in most of France they're not all they're cracked up to be, especially when temps plummet as that's when you most need the heat! My chauffage and chaudière are 'geothermal', so 400m2 of refrigerant gas-filled pipes outside and wet underfloor heating. It's fantastic, but no longer as cheap as it was supposed to be (electricity) and was only practical because we had to install something from scratch. I don't know what to suggest, unless some sort of wood-or-pellet burning system is practical to install. Wood and pellets are still more economical than anything else. Perhaps this site could offer some info? conseils-thermiques.org/contenu/remplacement-chaudiere-fioul.php

Have a look on LBC or FB and pick up a good second hand unit the same as your model and patch up your old one.

Its an old optima Gamme 3000 so i doubt there are many second hands around, considering buying the new equiv and fitting it myself, or finding someone that can, that should see us through until we leave this planet

I only know of glycol filled systems with heat exchangers inside the PACs for the liquid gas to evaporate.

You can buy any heating appliance and have it installed, in parts. We had our non-confirming wood boiler replaced but had to buy it ( on paper) in two sections .

It's R407C..definitely described as gaz on all the paperwork The pipework will not be gas filled, the R407c is used in the heat exchange circuit of the PàC, if you had the gas in the pipes it would permeate through the PER tubing and you would have enough to create a new hole in the ozone layer to replace the one that has just healed up.
R407c will be banned in 3 years time so maybe have the pressures checked before then and any top up done, I think you would still be able to recharge for a while after the date but the price of the gas will soon explode and nobody will carry it.
