Supermarket ones are pretty dire after you have tasted the real thing but a good introduction, dont overcook them if grilling, they need some fat remaining, there is so much fat in supermarket ones that you would have to forget and go out for the afternoon before they would be too dry but easy to do and hard to judge with boucherie ones. On that subject be wary of the supermarket boucheries when they suddenly have lots of merguez at a promo price préparé en magasin, merguez is the final stage for meat that is on the turn. I like to think I can stomach spicy food, many magnitudes hotter than what the average Frenchie would be calling Samu after tasting but in the Épicerie Arabe it seems to be on another level, they asked me if I wanted standard or épicée and I chose the latter, they said are you sure and I explained I wasn't French! The first kg I bought were much hotter than supermarket ones and just how I like them, the second lot blew my head off and gave me a Johnny Cash bottom, no way could I eat those again so I reverted to standard which were I reckon milder than the first lot. Either they made a mistake with the piment on the second lot or the first time they gave me the standard ones because they thought, correctly as it turns out, that despite my wishes I could not cope with the épicée ones. So this is a question which LeDolly can probably answer, are proper indigenous merguez super relevée? On the Amazigh side of our family we like them tres épicée, as would be the case throughout the close area of our original homeland. It is not unusual though, to find merguez that are much toned down to suit the palettes of lesser men, and Frenchie's as you have found. The ones that I make at home tend to be on the spicy side of life as I will use both Cayenne and Piment Antillais (habanero), neither of these chillis are truly indigenous to Morocco, but the habanero was introduced by the Spanish quite some time ago.
Bon appétit.

Merguez is sold in every supermarket in France , but not all are made with mutton and beef , as they should be. A slight correction, they should be made with mutton and/or beef. I bow to your wisdom .

Lunch time approaching fast. Very hungry. I checked morguez on my iPad and discovered how easy it is to source it in UK. I always enjoy trying new foods so the next time I am left alone to fend for myself I will endeavour to get some in. Maybe they will be available in Super U. No problem, take one chipolata, steep in oil of choice, MSG and chilli sauce for three days, then cook

Merguez not Morguez, it was probably a typo but referring to sausages in the singular made me wonder. Aha! A deux saucisses man, then I swear, I knew people in the UK who shared a Lincoln banger between the two of them for dinner Admittedly, they were svelte....very svelte

If only I followed my own advice. Arab shop was closed till 14.30 so I went to Netto for something else, while there I decided to take some "fait maison" beef sausages to avoid going back to the épicerie, I have just eaten 2 for supper, they were disgusting and the worse thing is I recall now that I have had them before and came to the same conclusion

My sympathies. OH has been having an 'economy' fad for a while now, which involves buying meat in Netto. It's utterly disgusting. You've only got to look at the colour of the blancs de poulet to know that it's borderline comestible. Perhaps it's just coincidence that they've not had any wet cat food in stock for a corresponding amount of time I'm going on hunger strike until he comes to his senses

Netto labelled stuff appears in Inter from time to time and I have seen Netto lorries deliveries also.........Inter's Jean Roze brand merguez were going cheap today as they were close to use by date so muggins here bought some. Now I have no idea what to do with them so they are now in the freezer.

Netto are owned by Intermarché, probably more accurate to say part of the same group, Les Mousquetaires?
Often found opposite Intermarché, its a clever way of not losing the custom of cheapies like myself and Houplas OH who (speaking for myself) never set foot in the grand InterClercs, I find them too marge and intimidating but thats probably a vision thing, I dont want to be peering through a 50 metre long rayon containing plain yoghurt to find the own brand one that has come off the same production line as all the others, I like the Lidl, Aldi mantra of on need one product.
Overall I find Netto excellent, they are also good to work for as well.

Brico-Marché and Bricocash are also part of the same group as Intermarché and we have both quite close to each other, the same semi-remorques deliver to both.

Never having put a foot inside a Netto supermarket myself , I'm afraid I was just recounting what Jen told me about the Nettos in England . Sorry if I am not part of " the other half"! I won't post what she actually said.
